An eighteen-month shift

On the fifth of December twenty twenty-six, Rahu and Ketu change signs. Rahu moves into Capricorn, and Ketu into Cancer, and they stay there for about eighteen months, until June twenty twenty-eight. The nodes change sign only once every year and a half, and astrologers read each move as a new emphasis in life: Rahu where you push forward, Ketu where you step back. In this video: the exact dates, what the new axis means for everyone, and what it may bring for each of the twelve Moon signs.

The dates

First, the dates. Rahu and Ketu always move backwards, and always stand exactly opposite each other. By the mean node, the convention most Indian almanacs use, Rahu has been in Aquarius, and Ketu in Leo, since the eighteenth of May twenty twenty-five. On the fifth of December twenty twenty-six, Rahu enters Capricorn and Ketu enters Cancer. In India, the change falls late that evening.

They stay until the twenty-third of June twenty twenty-eight, when Rahu enters Sagittarius, and Ketu Gemini. Some software uses the true node instead, which wobbles around the mean. By the true node, the change comes a little earlier, around the twenty-fifth of November. Neither is wrong. They are two definitions of the same point.

Capricorn and Cancer

What does the new axis mean for everyone? Rahu in Capricorn, Saturn's sign of institutions, government and structure, is read as a time when ambition for status, systems and achievement runs high. Ketu in Cancer, the Moon's sign of home, family and feeling, is read as a time when attachment to the familiar is questioned. There is a softer note too. Cancer is the sign where Jupiter is exalted, and Jupiter returns to Cancer for part of twenty twenty-seven.

Some astrologers read Ketu and Jupiter together there as reflective, even spiritual. And because eclipses happen near the nodes, most of the eclipses of twenty twenty-seven fall on this new axis, including the total solar eclipse of the second of August twenty twenty-seven, in sidereal Cancer.

How to read it for you

To read the transit for yourself, count from your Moon sign: the house Rahu enters, and the house Ketu enters. Classically, the nodes give their best support in the third, sixth and eleventh houses from the Moon. And remember: transits work through your dasha. They describe an emphasis, not a guaranteed event.

Aries to Virgo

Aries Moon: Rahu in your tenth, Ketu in your fourth. Strong ambition at work and a public push, while home life and inner peace ask for attention. Balance the drive with rest. Taurus Moon: Rahu in the ninth, Ketu in the third. A pull towards foreign travel, new ideas or unusual teachers, and Ketu in the third gives quiet courage and skill.

Gemini Moon: Rahu in the eighth, Ketu in the second. Research, shared money and sudden changes are emphasised. Care with speech, family and savings helps. A time for prudence, not alarm. Cancer Moon: Rahu in the seventh, Ketu on your Moon.

Partnerships take centre stage, sometimes with unconventional people, and Ketu can bring introspection. Clear communication matters. Leo Moon: Rahu in the sixth, Ketu in the twelfth. Rahu in the sixth is read as overcoming competition and obstacles with energy, and Ketu favours retreat and letting go of the old. Virgo Moon: Rahu in the fifth, Ketu in the eleventh.

Strong creative and romantic desires, and an interest in speculation that deserves caution, while Ketu brings gains through quieter, unexpected channels.

Libra to Pisces

Libra Moon: Rahu in the fourth, Ketu in the tenth. Home, property or a move are emphasised, and at work Ketu can loosen your attachment to titles. Look for meaning rather than status. Scorpio Moon: Rahu in the third, Ketu in the ninth. Rahu in the third is read as bold initiative, and success in media, communication and enterprise.

Ketu questions inherited beliefs. Sagittarius Moon: Rahu in the second, Ketu in the eighth. Ambition around income and family resources. Take care with words and spending, and use Ketu's depth for research and inner work. Capricorn Moon: Rahu on your Moon, Ketu in the seventh.

Ambition and restlessness rise, with a wish to reinvent yourself, and partnership asks for patience and clarity. Aquarius Moon: Rahu in the twelfth, Ketu in the sixth. Foreign links, travel and expenses with Rahu, while Ketu in the sixth is read as rivals and obstacles fading. Look after sleep and finances as Sade Sati ends. And Pisces Moon: Rahu in the eleventh, Ketu in the fifth.

Rahu in the eleventh is the classic node transit for gains and a widening network, and Ketu makes romance and creativity more inward. A helpful balance during Sade Sati.
