Six weeks of second thoughts
Right now, the planet of love, beauty and money is moving backwards. Venus has been retrograde since the third of October, and it turns direct on the fourteenth of November twenty twenty-six. For six weeks, astrologers say, the heart reviews its choices. Old feelings return, money decisions slow down, and what we find beautiful changes. In this video we look at what is happening in the sky, what the Vedic and Western traditions say about it, what it means for love and marriage, for money and for creative work, and what it may bring for your Moon sign.
As always on Sunyra, this is astrology as a tradition of interpretation. Nothing here is fixed fate, and nothing here should frighten you.
What is happening in the sky
First, the sky. A retrograde is an optical effect. Venus orbits the Sun inside Earth's orbit, and it moves faster than we do. About every nineteen months it catches up with us on the inside track. As it passes, it seems to drift backwards against the stars, the way a slower car seems to roll backwards when you overtake it on a highway.
On the twenty-fourth of October, Venus passed between Earth and the Sun. Astronomers call this the inferior conjunction. For most of October it shone as a brilliant evening star in the west after sunset. In early November it reappears as a morning star in the east before dawn. In Indian almanacs, this disappearance into the Sun's glare is called the setting, or combustion, of Venus.
Using the classical orb, it runs from about the nineteenth to the twenty-ninth of October. Here are the key dates, in universal time. Venus stationed retrograde on the third of October. Mercury also turned retrograde on the twenty-fourth of October, so until the thirteenth of November both personal planets are moving backwards together. Venus stations direct on the fourteenth of November.
Its so-called shadow, the stretch of sky it has to cover again, clears in the middle of December.
From its own sign to debilitation
For a Vedic astrologer, this retrograde has a clear shape. In the sidereal zodiac, Venus turned back in Libra, one of its two own signs, where it is comfortable and strong. On the fifth of November, or the sixth in India, it slips back into Virgo, the sign of its debilitation. It stations direct there, in the last degrees of Virgo, and returns to Libra on the twenty-second of November. What does that mean?
In Libra, Venus loves harmony, fairness and beauty. In Virgo, its love of pleasure meets Virgo's discernment and criticism. Astrologers read this as love and taste turning practical. We notice flaws, we weigh cost, and we question what we took for granted. A debilitated planet is not a curse.
The classical texts themselves list ways in which debilitation is cancelled, and a Venus in Virgo is often read as love that learns to serve and to see clearly. In the Western, tropical zodiac, the story is told a little differently. Venus turned retrograde in Scorpio, a sign of intensity, desire and shared money, and moved back into Libra, its home, on the twenty-fifth of October. So the movement is from intensity back to balance: from jealousy and secrets towards fairness and partnership.
Love and marriage
Now, the part most people want to know about: love. The central theme of a Venus retrograde is second thoughts. Feelings about a partner, or about what you really want, come up for honest review. Couples often find themselves talking about fairness, money, intimacy and the future. That is not a bad thing.
Many relationships get stronger after a conversation that was overdue. The past returns. Exes and old attractions tend to reappear, especially while Mercury is retrograde too, until the thirteenth of November. The traditional advice is simple: listen, but do not rush. If someone from the past comes back, give it time to show you what it really is.
New love that begins now is traditionally said to show its true nature only after Venus turns direct. So enjoy it, and decide slowly. And weddings. Many astrologers would not choose a wedding date between the third of October and the fourteenth of November if there is a free choice, and Vedic muhurta especially avoids the days when Venus is combust. If your date is already fixed, do not panic.
A good muhurta is read as a whole, and one planet never decides it alone. If you are running a Venus dasha, or Venus rules the seventh house of your chart, this period may coincide with real decisions about commitment.
Money and value
Venus is also the planet of what we value, and of what we pay for pleasure. So for these six weeks the tradition gives four pieces of money advice. Review your spending on luxuries, beauty, entertainment and gifts. Postpone big purchases of jewellery, art, designer goods and vehicles if you have a choice. In Jyotish, Venus is the significator of vehicles.
Think about what your work is worth, and plan to renegotiate fees after Venus turns direct. And use the practical, frugal mood of Venus in Virgo for budgeting and clearing out what you no longer need.
Beauty and creative work
For painters, designers, musicians, writers and makers, astrologers link this retrograde with work that stalls, needs reworking, or returns to older styles. With Mercury retrograde as well, words and plans get revised too. So this is a good time for restoring, editing, finishing and practising, and for going back through old work. Launches of new collections, exhibitions and rebrands are traditionally better timed after the fourteenth of November, and for the careful, after the shadow clears in mid-December. The same goes for dramatic changes of appearance.
A style rethink, yes. A complete makeover, maybe later.
By Moon sign
Here is what the tradition says for each Moon sign. Count the house from your Moon sign. If you do not know it, the free kundli on sunyra.ai shows it. For Aries Moon, Venus moves through your seventh house: marriage and partnership come up for review. For Taurus Moon, it is the sixth: smooth out friction at work with patience.
For Gemini Moon, the fifth: old flames and unfinished creative work resurface. For Cancer Moon, the fourth: plans for the home and vehicles are better drafted than signed. For Leo Moon, the third: old conversations and half-finished hobbies return. For Virgo Moon, the second: review the family budget before buying. For Libra Moon, the first: a rethink of your look and your self-worth.
For Scorpio Moon, the twelfth: watch hidden expenses and protect your rest. For Sagittarius Moon, the eleventh: old friends return, and gains are reassessed. For Capricorn Moon, the tenth: rebrands and launches at work tend to wait. For Aquarius Moon, the ninth: travel and long-distance plans are revisited rather than booked. And for Pisces Moon, the eighth: joint money and trust come up for an honest review.
When Venus slips into Virgo in November, each of these moves back one house. The full table, for every Moon sign and every Sun sign, is on our Venus retrograde page.
What to do, and what to wait for
So what should you actually do? Here is the tradition's list. Favoured: honest conversations about the relationship. Repairing, renewing and reconciling. Reworking and finishing creative projects.
Reviewing budgets and fees. Decluttering and mending. Traditionally postponed, if there is a choice: fixing a wedding date, starting a relationship in a hurry, launching a collection or a rebrand, big jewellery, art or vehicle purchases, and dramatic changes of appearance. And one gentle reminder. Venus retrograde does not cause breakups, losses or illness.
It is a season that astrologers use for reflection. If you are going through a hard time in a relationship, talk to people you trust, or to a professional.
Recap
To recap. Venus is retrograde from the third of October to the fourteenth of November twenty twenty-six, moving from its own sign Libra into Virgo in the Vedic zodiac. It is a time to review love, value and beauty, rather than to begin. Mercury joins it until the thirteenth of November. After the fourteenth, decisions become easier, and by mid-December the shadow has cleared.
