How each aspect is read
The 4th aspect brings Mars's energy to the house four signs ahead: activity in property, renovation, vehicles, and sometimes restlessness or friction at home if that house is the native's 4th. On the 10th house (Mars in the 7th), it adds drive and competitiveness to career.
The 7th aspect falls opposite Mars: partners, open rivals, contracts. Mars aspecting the 7th house or its lord is one reason Mangal dosha is linked with partnership — though the dosha itself is defined by Mars's placement, not its aspect.
The 8th aspect reaches the house eight signs ahead: research, shared resources, sudden events, transformation. On the 3rd house (Mars in the 8th) it adds courage; on the 2nd (Mars in the 7th), strong speech about money.
When Mars's aspect helps
- In upachaya houses (3rd, 6th, 10th, 11th), Mars's aspect is widely read as giving effort, competitiveness and results that grow with time.
- As a functional benefic: for Cancer and Leo ascendants Mars is a yogakaraka (ruling an angle and a trine), so its aspects carry that quality.
- When Mars is dignified (own sign Aries or Scorpio, exalted in Capricorn), its aspects are read as disciplined rather than rash.
- With Jupiter's aspect on the same house, Mars's heat is tempered.
Mars's aspects in transit
Transiting Mars spends about six to seven weeks in a sign (longer when retrograde). Its aspects from transit are read as short bursts of activity for the houses they touch. Astrologers watch them most when they fall on the natal Moon, ascendant or a house lord running its dasha.

Is Mars's aspect on the 7th house bad for marriage? It is read as passion, directness or competitiveness in partnership. Jupiter's influence, Venus's strength and the 7th lord's condition matter just as much.
Does Mars aspect the 4th and 8th from the ascendant? No — from its own position. Mars in the 5th house aspects the 8th, 11th and 12th houses.
Is Mars's 8th aspect related to the 8th house? Only when Mars is in the 1st house. In general the "8th" means the eighth sign from wherever Mars is.
