The house where every planet gives

There is one house in the birth chart where, according to the classical texts, almost every planet gives good results. It is the eleventh house, the house of gains. The eleventh house is income and profit, the fulfilment of wishes, friends, networks, communities, elder siblings and benefactors. Vedic astrology calls it labha bhava, the house of gain. Greek astrologers called it the Good Spirit.

In this video: what the eleventh house means, where your gains come from according to its lord, what each planet brings there, the transit rule that makes the eleventh house special, and why your friends are part of your fortune.

What the eleventh house means

The classical texts give the eleventh house gains of every kind, income, elder siblings, friends, and the fulfilment of desires. It is an upachaya, a house of growth that improves with time and effort, and the most rewarding of them. The texts are unusually generous about it. Benefic and malefic planets alike are said to give gains here, each in its own way. Its natural significator is Jupiter.

And the eleventh lord is a key part of the classical wealth combinations, especially with the lords of the second, fifth and ninth houses. In Western astrology, the eleventh house is friendship, groups, communities, networks, causes, and long-term hopes.

Where your gains come from

The lord of the eleventh house shows where gains come from. In the tenth, gains through career. In the second, wealth that accumulates. In the fifth, gains through creativity, investment or children. In the seventh, through partnership or trade.

In the ninth, through good fortune or teachers. And in the twelfth, through foreign connections, though often with high expenses too.

Planets in the eleventh house

Now the planets in the eleventh house. The Sun gives gains through authority or government, and influential friends. The Moon gives gains through the public, and many friends, with a fluctuating income. Mars gives gains through effort, property or competition. Mercury gives gains through trade, communication and networks.

Jupiter, the natural significator, gives generous gains, wise friends, and the fulfilment of wishes. Venus gives gains through the arts, beauty or relationships, and a pleasant social life. Saturn gives slow but lasting gains, and serious, loyal friends: persistence is rewarded. Rahu here is traditionally one of its very best placements: large or unusual gains, and foreign or technology networks. And Ketu gives gains through spiritual or technical work, with a healthy detachment from material desire.

The transit rule

The eleventh house has one more special rule. In the classical text Phaladeepika, the eleventh house from your Moon sign is the one house where every planet is counted favourable in transit: the Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu. So when Saturn spends its two and a half years in the eleventh house from your Moon, the tradition remembers it as a time of gains after effort. For example, from December twenty twenty-six, Rahu in Capricorn transits the eleventh house from Pisces Moon, the classic node transit for gains and a widening network.

Friends are part of fortune

And here is the quiet lesson of the eleventh house. It puts income and friendship in the same place. In the tradition's view, gains rarely come from effort alone. They come through people: a friend who opens a door, a community that trusts you, an elder who guides you. Look after your network, and give as generously as you hope to receive.

That, too, strengthens your eleventh house.
