Job or business?
Should you take a job, or start your own business? It is one of the most common questions people bring to an astrologer. The classical texts do not ask it in those exact words. But they do distinguish service, the sixth house, from trade and partnership, the seventh, and from independent action, the first, third and tenth. In this video: how the houses divide the question, the factors astrologers read towards employment, and towards business, why most charts are mixed, how to time a move, and one honest caution.
How the houses divide the question
The tenth house says what you do, and how visibly. But the sixth and seventh houses say a great deal about on whose terms. The sixth is the house of service: serving someone else's purpose, an employer, an institution or a cause. The seventh, opposite the self, is the house of dealing as an equal with others: customers, partners, the market. The third is effort, courage and small ventures.
The eleventh is gains and scale. And the second is savings, the capital you might invest.
Factors that lean towards a job
Astrologers read these factors as leaning towards employment. A strong sixth house or sixth lord, especially connected with the tenth: work within an organisation, with steady duties. Saturn strong and connected to the tenth: long service in institutions, government, large companies or industry. The tenth lord in the sixth, or the sixth lord in the tenth: a career defined by service, or by competitive employment. The Sun strong in the tenth: authority within a structure, often public service.
And a cautious Mars with a quieter third house: less appetite for personal risk.
Factors that lean towards business
And these lean towards business. A strong seventh house or seventh lord, connected with the tenth or eleventh: trade, clients and partnerships. Mercury strong, the natural significator of commerce, accounts and negotiation. Mars and the third house strong: initiative, courage and a willingness to take risks. Rahu in the tenth, seventh, third or eleventh: unconventional or fast-growing ventures, foreign markets, technology.
A strong eleventh and second: the capacity to grow and keep profits. And dhana yogas, the wealth combinations, linking the lords of the second, fifth, ninth and eleventh houses.
Most charts are mixed
In most charts, both sets of factors appear. A common modern reading is a sequence: a period of employment that builds skills and capital, during sixth house periods, followed by independent work when supportive dashas arrive, those of the seventh, third or eleventh lords. Another is a hybrid: a job together with a consultancy or side venture, which a strong sixth and seventh together often describe well. And for partnerships specifically: a well-placed seventh lord supports business partners. A seventh house under pressure is a reason to keep every agreement clear and written.
That is good advice for anyone.
Timing a move
When is the right time to move? Astrologers examine the dashas of the seventh, third, tenth or eleventh lords, of Mercury, or of the amatyakaraka, the career planet in the Jaimini method. Jupiter's transit over the tenth, eleventh or seventh, from the ascendant or the Moon, is read as expansion. And Saturn's transit over the tenth is read as responsibility and consolidation: often a time to build carefully, rather than leap. If you would like your own career years read month by month, Sunyra's Career and Wealth Report on sunyra.ai does that from your chart.
An honest caution
And one honest caution. Starting a business or leaving a job is a financial decision. A chart can describe temperament and timing tendencies. It cannot judge a market, a business plan, or your savings. Please take financial and professional advice before acting, and never risk money you cannot afford to lose on the strength of a reading.
Recap
To recap. The sixth house leans towards employment, the seventh towards business, with the third and eleventh for enterprise and gains. Saturn and the Sun build within structures. Mercury, Mars and Rahu lean towards ventures. Most charts are mixed, and the dasha decides the timing.
And the decision itself deserves real financial advice. To see your sixth, seventh and tenth houses, make your free kundli at sunyra.ai. Thank you for watching. May your work suit you, and pay you well.
