A rare double retrograde

Right now, two planets are moving backwards at the same time. Mercury, the planet of words, contracts and business, turned retrograde on the twenty-fourth of October. Venus, the planet of love, beauty and money, has been retrograde since the third. Until the thirteenth of November twenty twenty-six, both are retrograde together. Astrologers call this a double retrograde, and they read it as a strong season of review for the two things these planets share: relationships and agreements.

What we say to the people we love, and what we value in them. What we sign, and what it is worth. In this video: why it is uncommon, the key dates, and the tradition's advice for love, money, contracts and work.

Why it is uncommon

Mercury is retrograde about a fifth of the time, three or four times a year. Venus is retrograde much less, about seven percent of the time, once every nineteen months. The two overlap only occasionally, and this overlap is long: about three weeks, almost the whole of Mercury's retrograde. It also has a neat ending. Both planets turn direct within a few hours of each other.

Mercury on the thirteenth of November, and Venus about eight and a half hours later, on the fourteenth, in universal time. And both pass between Earth and the Sun within eleven days of each other: Venus on the twenty-fourth of October, Mercury on the fourth of November. For a short while, neither planet is visible in the night sky.

The sky in the two zodiacs

In the Vedic, sidereal zodiac, the sign of Libra is crowded. Retrograde Mercury is there, retrograde Venus is there until the fifth of November, and the Sun is there too, in its sign of debilitation. Until the twelfth of November, Mars aspects Libra from Cancer. Astrologers read this as partnership and business terms under real scrutiny, with tempers that can flare in negotiations. In the Western, tropical zodiac, the overlap begins with both planets in Scorpio, the sign of trust, secrets, joint finances and intimacy.

Venus then moves back into Libra, where the questions turn to fairness and balance.

Love and marriage

Now love. The tradition's single best piece of advice for this overlap is: talk, do not text. Mercury retrograde garbles words. Venus retrograde sharpens feelings. Together, that is a recipe for misunderstanding.

So say important things in person, slowly, and check what the other person actually heard. Messages from exes are a classic double retrograde theme. Take your time before replying, and before deciding anything. For couples, this is a good season to revisit an old disagreement with patience, to renegotiate how you share money or chores, or to renew a commitment privately. For proposals, engagements and weddings, many astrologers would choose a date after the fourteenth of November.

If your date is already fixed, have the whole muhurta read, rather than worrying about one overlap. And if you are dating someone new, enjoy it. The tradition says the real shape of a new connection shows after both planets turn direct.

Money, contracts and work

Now money and work, the other half of this retrograde. Contracts first. If you have a free choice, the tradition says sign partnership deeds, leases, loans and major purchase agreements after the thirteenth or fourteenth of November, or, for the careful, after Mercury's shadow ends on the thirtieth of November. If you must sign now, read every clause and confirm every figure. That is good advice in any month.

Spending. Review what you spend on luxury and pleasure, and postpone big jewellery, art and vehicle purchases if you can. Around Diwali in early November, many families buy gold and new things. The tradition's caution is about impulse, not about festivals. Set your budget beforehand, and keep to it.

And at work, this overlap favours revising proposals, re-pricing, renegotiating terms, checking accounts, finishing creative work, and reconnecting with former clients. Launches, rebrands and new contracts are better timed after it. None of this is legal or financial advice.

Which part of your life

Which part of your life does it touch? In the Vedic method, count Libra from your Moon sign. For Aries Moon, Libra is the seventh house, marriage and partnership. For Virgo Moon, it is the second, money and family. For Libra Moon, it is the first, yourself.

For Cancer Moon, the fourth, home. For Capricorn Moon, the tenth, career. That house is where the review is strongest. In the Western method, count Scorpio from your Sun sign or rising sign. It is the eighth house for Aries, the seventh for Taurus, the second for Libra, and the first for Scorpio.

What to do, and what to wait for

So here is the tradition's list. Favoured: in-person conversations about the relationship. Reconciling, renegotiating and renewing. Re-reading contracts and accounts. Finishing and revising creative work.

A budget review before festival spending. Traditionally postponed, if there is a choice: serious relationship talks by text, engagements and weddings, signing major contracts in haste, launches and rebrands, and impulse luxury and vehicle purchases. And is a double retrograde dangerous? No. It is an unusual emphasis in an interpretive tradition.

A season for review in love and agreements, not a time of danger.

Recap

To recap. Mercury and Venus are both retrograde from the twenty-fourth of October to the thirteenth of November twenty twenty-six. Talk, do not text. Read every clause. Set the festival budget beforehand.
