In short: Jupiter with Rahu forms Guru-Chandala yoga, traditionally read as unorthodox belief, questioning of teachers and tradition, or a gifted but unconventional teacher.
At a glance
| Planets | Jupiter (Guru) and Rahu |
| Natures | Jupiter: natural benefic; Rahu: natural malefic |
| Natural relationship (BPHS) | not defined for the nodes; Rahu acts through Jupiter and its dispositor |
| Mutual sub-period | Rahu antardasha in Jupiter mahadasha: about 2 years 5 months |
How the two blend
Rahu magnifies and distorts Jupiter's wisdom. Classical and later texts read Guru-Chandala yoga as strain on dharma and teachers; modern readings add reform, research and unconventional spirituality. Jupiter's dignity is key: in Cancer or its own signs it holds firm; in Capricorn it is weaker.
As a node, Rahu gives the results of the planet it joins, here Jupiter, coloured by the lord of the sign they share. Jupiter brings wisdom, teachers, children, dharma, wealth and grace; Rahu brings desire, ambition, the foreign, the new and the unconventional.
Strengths and challenges
Strengths: independent thought, reform and unconventional wisdom.
Challenges: confusion in belief, and strained relations with teachers.
At best the pair combines faith, generosity and good judgement with the boldness to break a pattern no one else questions; at worst, preaching, complacency and over-promising feeds never feeling it is enough.
Love and marriage
In relationships the classic note is: shared values need clarity. Jupiter looks for a principled partner and grows love through shared values. Rahu draws unconventional or cross-cultural attractions and intense, obsessive feelings. Joined, those two needs have to share one relationship. Jupiter in the pair protects relationships and, traditionally, signifies the husband. Rahu with Jupiter makes attraction intense and sometimes unconventional. The house matters: in the 7th it describes the spouse, in the 5th the romance, in the 8th the depth and durability of the bond.
Career and money
At work the pair favours research, reform, foreign education and technology. Fields that combine the two work best: Jupiter suits teaching, law, finance, counselling, religion, advisory and senior roles, while Rahu suits technology, foreign work, media, politics, aviation and anything new or disruptive. Rahu rules no sign, so the pair forms no lordship yoga by itself; it amplifies whatever Jupiter rules for the ascendant, and in KP practice gives Jupiter's results. Financially there are two tendencies: wealth grows through wisdom, ethics and patient accumulation; and income can come suddenly from unusual or foreign sources and needs guarding.
Health and wellbeing
Tradition's advice for this pair: purpose and discernment. Jupiter is linked with the liver, fat, sugar balance and over-indulgence; Rahu with unusual or hard-to-diagnose complaints, anxiety and addictions. This is traditional astrology, not medical advice.
By sign
Dignity by sign decides much. Taken together, the two are best placed in Cancer and Pisces, and least comfortable in Capricorn.

By house
By house, the pair is most at home in the 1st, 11th and 3rd, and needs most care in the 8th and 12th. Jupiter has directional strength in the 1st. In the 7th it is a marriage statement, in the 10th a career statement, and in the 2nd or 11th a money statement. Because the pair includes a malefic, the upachaya houses (3rd, 6th, 11th) improve it over time.
In the dashas
Its clearest periods are the Rahu antardasha of Jupiter mahadasha and the reverse, each about 2 years 5 months, within mahadashas of 16 and 18 years. Classically Jupiter matures around age 16 and Rahu around 42, which can mark when the combination shows most clearly.
What else changes it
- Degree. Closeness matters: a tight conjunction fuses the two, a wide one lets each act more separately.
- Aspects. Aspects modify it: Jupiter protects, Saturn tests, Mars stirs.
- Nakshatra and navamsa. The nakshatra lords and navamsa (D9) positions fine-tune it.
The Western view
In Western astrology Jupiter conjunct the North Node is read as growth through faith and learning.
FAQ
Is Guru-Chandala yoga bad? It is traditionally cautionary, but Jupiter's strength and the whole chart decide.
Is the Jupiter–Rahu conjunction good for marriage? Not by itself either way: the 7th house, the 7th lord and Venus decide marriage. The pair matters most when it sits in or rules the 7th. Shared values need clarity.
Does Rahu with Jupiter form a yoga? Rahu has no lordship, so it forms no lordship yoga by itself; it magnifies the yogas Jupiter is part of for the ascendant.
When does the Jupiter–Rahu conjunction give results? In the Jupiter and Rahu mahadashas, and especially in their mutual antardashas of about 2 years 5 months.
Does it matter how close Jupiter and Rahu are? Yes. A close conjunction blends the two strongly; planets at opposite ends of a sign are read as sharing it more loosely.
