What the Jupiter period tends to bring
Jupiter signifies wisdom, children, wealth, dharma and teachers. Its period commonly brings expansion: education, family growth, advancement and a sense of meaning — with lessons about overreach.
When Jupiter is strong, and when it is strained
Jupiter is strongest in Sagittarius or Pisces (own), Cancer (exalted), in the 1st (directional strength), in angles and trines. It is strained when debilitated in Capricorn, combust, with Rahu, or ruling difficult houses.
The nine antardashas
Each mahadasha is divided into nine sub-periods (antardashas or bhuktis), beginning with the mahadasha lord itself and following the Vimshottari order. Each antardasha lasts (mahadasha years × antardasha years) ÷ 120 years.
| Antardasha | Length (360-day years) | Years |
|---|---|---|
| Jupiter | 2 years 1 month 18 days | 2.13 |
| Saturn | 2 years 6 months 12 days | 2.53 |
| Mercury | 2 years 3 months 6 days | 2.27 |
| Ketu | 11 months 6 days | 0.93 |
| Venus | 2 years 8 months | 2.67 |
| Sun | 9 months 18 days | 0.80 |
| Moon | 1 year 4 months | 1.33 |
| Mars | 11 months 6 days | 0.93 |
| Rahu | 2 years 4 months 24 days | 2.40 |
How the chart changes it
A dasha brings forward whatever its planet promises in the individual chart. The main factors, in classical order of importance:
- The houses Jupiter rules for the ascendant — its period delivers those houses' matters. (See our ascendant pages for Jupiter's lordship in each.)
- The house Jupiter occupies — where in life the period is felt.
- Dignity — exalted, own sign, friendly, enemy or debilitated (with cancellation checked).
- Aspects and conjunctions — Jupiter's aspect protects; malefic association adds strain.
- The nakshatra lord of Jupiter — part of the results come through it.
- Navamsa and other divisional charts — D9 for overall strength, D10 for career.
- Transits — the period's events often coincide with Jupiter and Saturn transits over key points.
Relationships, work and wellbeing
