What the Venus period tends to bring

Venus signifies love, beauty, pleasure and refinement. Its long period commonly includes marriage or important relationships, improvements in comfort and possessions, artistic development, and social and financial growth. Because it is so long, Venus's period often spans several stages of life.

When Venus is strong, and when it is strained

Venus is strongest in Taurus, Libra or Pisces, in the 4th (directional strength) or 12th (classically favourable), and as yogakaraka for Capricorn and Aquarius rising. It is strained when debilitated in Virgo, combust, or afflicted by malefics.

The nine antardashas

Each mahadasha is divided into nine sub-periods (antardashas or bhuktis), beginning with the mahadasha lord itself and following the Vimshottari order. Each antardasha lasts (mahadasha years × antardasha years) ÷ 120 years.

Antardasha Length (360-day years) Years
Venus 3 years 4 months 3.33
Sun 1 year 1.00
Moon 1 year 8 months 1.67
Mars 1 year 2 months 1.17
Rahu 3 years 3.00
Jupiter 2 years 8 months 2.67
Saturn 3 years 2 months 3.17
Mercury 2 years 10 months 2.83
Ketu 1 year 2 months 1.17

How the chart changes it

A dasha brings forward whatever its planet promises in the individual chart. The main factors, in classical order of importance:

  • The houses Venus rules for the ascendant — its period delivers those houses' matters. (See our ascendant pages for Venus's lordship in each.)
  • The house Venus occupies — where in life the period is felt.
  • Dignity — exalted, own sign, friendly, enemy or debilitated (with cancellation checked).
  • Aspects and conjunctions — Jupiter's aspect protects; malefic association adds strain.
  • The nakshatra lord of Venus — part of the results come through it.
  • Navamsa and other divisional charts — D9 for overall strength, D10 for career.
  • Transits — the period's events often coincide with Jupiter and Saturn transits over key points.

Relationships, work and wellbeing

Relationships: central; marriage and partnership themes are common.

Work: the arts, design, luxury, hospitality, finance and diplomacy often come forward.

Wellbeing: moderation in pleasures keeps the period healthy. Not medical advice.

Traditional practices for the Venus period

Traditional practice for the Venus period includes Friday observances, worship of Lakshmi, charity of white items, and respect toward women. These are devotional practices, not guarantees.
