Aarti Kije Hanuman Lala Ki: Hanuman aarti lyrics with meaning
The aarti sung after the Hanuman Chalisa on Tuesdays and Saturdays. It tells the Ramayana in miniature: the leap to Lanka, the fire, the sanjeevani herb and the rescue from the underworld.
Listen: Hanuman Aarti: Aarti Kije Hanuman Lala Ki
A computer-voiced recitation over a soft aarti rhythm of claps, bell and manjira, checked line by line against the text. It is an aid to reading along, not a replacement for a priest or a family elder.
What this aarti is
“Aarti kije Hanuman Lala ki” calls Hanuman lala, the dear child, with the affection of a family elder. Each verse recalls a deed from the Ramayana: carrying Rama's message to Sita, crossing the ocean and burning Lanka, bringing the sanjeevani herb to revive Lakshmana, and breaking into the underworld to free Rama and Lakshmana from Ahiravana.
Many versions end with a line naming Tulsidas, and the aarti is often linked with him, but its authorship is not certain. It is a traditional text sung in North Indian homes and temples for generations.
When it is sung
- Tuesdays and Saturdays, after the Hanuman Chalisa.
- Hanuman Jayanti and the Sundarkand path.
- In difficult times, when families turn to Hanuman for courage.
How to do the aarti, step by step
You need no priest. Aarti is the closing part of any puja, and it can also be done on its own, morning or evening, in about four minutes.
- Wash your hands and face and stand or sit before a picture or murti of Hanuman.
- Prepare a plate (thali) with a ghee diya or a piece of camphor, a little roli and rice, a flower and boondi or gur-chana (jaggery and roasted gram).
- Light the diya or camphor. Someone rings a small bell, or everyone claps along while singing.
- Sing the aarti below and slowly wave the plate clockwise before the deity: four times at the feet, twice at the middle, once at the face, then seven times around the whole form.
- After the last verse, circle a little water around the plate and set it down.
- Everyone takes the aarti: hold both palms briefly over the flame and touch them to your eyes and head. Share the prasad.
Tunes and a few words differ from family to family. Sing it the way your home does; the feeling matters more than the exact wording.

Questions
Should the aarti come after the Hanuman Chalisa?
Yes, in the usual order: chalisa first, then this aarti with the lamp, then prasad.
What does “de beera” mean?
A beera (bira) is a rolled betel leaf. Handing it to someone was a way of entrusting them with a task; Rama gave Hanuman the beera when he sent him to find Sita.
Which days are best?
Tuesdays and Saturdays, and Hanuman Jayanti, though any day is fine.
Text and sources
The Hindi text is a traditional, public-domain aarti. Every line was checked against Drik Panchang, Shubh Panchang and the Sanskrit Documents “Arati Sangrah”; Drik and Shubh agree word for word and we follow them. Variants you may meet: “lanka jaay siya sudhi laaye” in verse 3, “lanka sau koti samudra si khaai” in verse 4, and a closing couplet some sing before the last verse, “lank vidhvans kiye raghurai, tulsidas swami kirti gaai”. The transliteration and meanings are our own.
