In short: The Sun and Venus together join the self and love — natural enemies in BPHS. The combination often gives charm, artistic gifts and a love of beauty, while Venus close to the Sun is combust and its significations of love and comfort need care.
At a glance
| Planets | The Sun (Surya) and Venus (Shukra) |
| Natures | The Sun: natural malefic; Venus: natural benefic |
| Natural relationship (BPHS) | The Sun sees Venus as enemy; Venus sees the Sun as enemy |
| Combustion | Venus is combust within about 10° of the Sun (Surya Siddhanta orbs; texts vary) |
| Mutual sub-period | Venus antardasha in Sun mahadasha: about 1 year |
How the two blend
Venus stays within about 47° of the Sun, so this conjunction is common. BPHS lists the Sun and Venus as enemies, and classical texts treat Venus near the Sun as weakened. In practice the pair often describes a creative, attractive personality and a strong relationship between identity and love — sometimes relationships where the person's pride and a partner's needs must be balanced. In Taurus and Libra Venus is at home; in Leo the Sun; in Pisces Venus is exalted; in Virgo debilitated; in Libra the Sun is debilitated.
By BPHS natural relationships the two are mutual enemies, which sets how easily they share a sign. Put simply, identity, authority, the father and the will to shine meet love, marriage, beauty, comfort, art, vehicles and luxury.
Strengths and challenges
Strengths: charm, artistic talent, taste and social grace.
Challenges: vanity, and relationships complicated by ego when Venus is combust.
The gifts to build on: moral courage and the ability to stand alone for what is right, and grace, charm and the ability to make life beautiful. The shadows to watch: pride that cannot admit a mistake, and indulgence and choosing comfort over growth.
Love and marriage
For love, the short version: romantic and attractive; balance self and partner. The Sun needs a partner who respects their dignity and lets them lead some of the time. Venus is the natural significator of love and marriage itself, seeking harmony, affection and pleasure. Joined, those two needs have to share one relationship. Because Venus is the karaka of love and marriage, this conjunction is always read for relationships, wherever it falls. Check whether the pair includes the 7th lord: the Sun is the 7th lord for Aquarius rising; Venus is the 7th lord for Aries and Scorpio rising. In those charts it is a primary marriage factor. Placed in the 7th house itself, the pair describes the partner as carrying both planets' qualities; in the 5th it shapes romance; in the 12th, private life and intimacy.
Career and money
For career, the combination favours the arts, design, fashion and entertainment. The Sun seeks visible responsibility, government or leadership roles and work that carries their name. Venus suits arts, design, fashion, beauty, hospitality, entertainment and luxury trades. The pair does well where these meet. It becomes a raja yoga for Aries, Taurus, Leo and Aquarius ascendants, where the pair joins an angle lord with a trine lord. A dhana (wealth) yoga forms for Aries, Cancer, Libra and Sagittarius rising, where the pair links the 2nd or 11th with a trine or with each other. It is a career conjunction first of all where the Sun rules the 10th for Scorpio rising; Venus rules the 10th for Leo and Capricorn rising. With money, money tends to follow authority and position, and earnings come through beauty, comfort and relationships, with a taste for spending on them.
Health and wellbeing
Tradition's advice for this pair: balance pleasure and rest. The Sun is linked with vitality, the heart, eyesight and the backbone; Venus with the kidneys, reproductive health, hormones and sugar. This is traditional astrology, not medical advice.

Counting both planets' dignity, Pisces is the most favourable sign for the pair, Virgo the most demanding.

By house
By house, the pair is most at home in the 10th, 4th and 1st, and needs most care in the 8th and 12th. The Sun has directional strength in the 10th; Venus has directional strength in the 4th. For the questions people ask most: the 7th house ties it to the spouse, the 10th to career, the 2nd and 11th to income. Malefics do well in the growth houses (3rd, 6th, 11th), and this pair includes one.
In the dashas
The pair comes forward in the mahadasha of either planet (the Sun: 6 years; Venus: 20 years) and most of all in the Sun–Venus and Venus–the Sun sub-periods, each lasting 1 year. Classically the Sun matures around age 22 and Venus around 25, which can mark when the combination shows most clearly.
What else changes it
- Degree. Closeness matters: a tight conjunction fuses the two, a wide one lets each act more separately.
- Aspects. Aspects modify it: Jupiter protects, Saturn tests, Mars stirs.
- Nakshatra and navamsa. The nakshatra lords and navamsa (D9) positions fine-tune it.
- Combustion. Within about 10° of the Sun, Venus is combust and its significations are partly absorbed into the Sun's agenda.
The Western view
In Western astrology a Sun–Venus conjunction gives charm, warmth and artistic sensitivity; Venus is never far enough from the Sun to form other major aspects to it.
FAQ
Is Venus combust bad? Classical texts say combustion weakens Venus's significations; the degree of closeness and the rest of the chart matter.
Is the Sun–Venus conjunction good for marriage? It depends on house and lordship more than on the pair itself. It is most directly about marriage in the 7th house, or where one of the two rules the 7th. Romantic and attractive; balance self and partner.
Does the Sun with Venus form a raja yoga? Yes, by lordship, for Aries, Taurus, Leo and Aquarius rising, where one rules an angle and the other a trine. It forms a dhana yoga for Aries, Cancer, Libra and Sagittarius rising.
When does the Sun–Venus conjunction give results? In the Sun and Venus mahadashas, and especially in their mutual antardashas of about 1 year.
Does it matter how close the Sun and Venus are? Yes. A close conjunction blends the two strongly; planets at opposite ends of a sign are read as sharing it more loosely.
