Rahu in the 9th House for Pisces Ascendant (Meena Lagna)

In short: With Pisces (Meena) rising, the ninth house is Scorpio (Vrishchika), so Rahu here sits in Scorpio, debilitated in one school. Rahu borrows its agenda from Mars, lord of Scorpio and, for this ascendant, of the 2nd and 9th houses. The placement brings Rahu's nature into fortune, faith and teachers, coloured by Scorpio.

At a glance

Rahu in Scorpio: the ninth house for Pisces rising

Every Pisces-rising chart has Scorpio on the 9th house, the house of fortune, faith, teachers and long journeys and a trine, the most fortunate house. Scorpio adds intensity, secrecy and staying power. The house's natural significator is Jupiter, the Sun, worth checking alongside. Mars also rules the 2nd for Pisces rising, so what Rahu does here echoes there.

Rahu in the 9th questions traditional belief, brings foreign teachers or travel, and an unconventional philosophy. Its dignity here: debilitated in one school. It needs support from aspects or a strong dispositor.

What drives Rahu for Pisces rising

Lacking a sign of its own, Rahu serves its host: Mars, ruler of Scorpio and of the 2nd and 9th for Pisces rising. Many astrologers therefore read Rahu as carrying Mars's houses into the 9th; the classical results apply in part, amplified by Rahu:

• Mars's 2nd-house agenda (wealth, family and speech): One of the classic wealth combinations: the 2nd lord in the 9th brings money through fortune, father, teachers or ethical work, and a family known for its values.

• Mars's 9th-house agenda (fortune, faith and teachers): In its own house the 9th lord strongly blesses fortune, faith, father and higher learning, and gives a dharmic, generous nature.

How strong Mars is, and where it sits, decides much of the outcome; Rahu's nakshatra lord adds a further layer.

The 9th–3rd axis

Opposite, Ketu in Taurus (the 3rd) releases courage, skills and siblings, so Rahu's appetite for fortune, faith and teachers becomes the direction of growth.

Rahu and the lagna lord

The nodes have no natural friendships, so look at the dispositor: Mars is a natural friend relative to Jupiter.

Aspects from the 9th house

Its aspects reach:

• the 3rd house by its 7th aspect: it magnifies desire around courage, skills and siblings; that house is Taurus, ruled by Venus, so steadiness is what it touches.

Some schools add 5th and 9th aspects for Rahu; the axis with its partner in the 3rd is common to all.

Which nakshatra: Scorpio in parts

Within Scorpio, the exact degree puts Rahu in one of these nakshatras, each with a lord that has its own role in a Pisces chart:

• 0°–3°20′ Scorpio: Vishakha, a Jupiter nakshatra, linking the placement with the 1st and 10th (self and body; career and status); its gift is determination, its shadow jealousy and ends-justify-means thinking.

• 3°20′–16°40′ Scorpio: Anuradha, a Saturn nakshatra, linking the placement with the 11th and 12th (gains and networks; expenses, foreign lands and retreat); its gift is devotion and friendship, its shadow clinging and holding grudges.

• 16°40′–30° Scorpio: Jyeshtha, a Mercury nakshatra, linking the placement with the 4th and 7th (home, mother and property; marriage and partnership); for work it points to leadership, administration, protection, occult and crisis management.
