In short: The Sun in Aries is the Sun exalted: the soul planet in the sign of beginnings, at its strongest in Vedic and Western astrology alike. It tends to give confidence, courage, initiative and natural authority — and, unchecked, impatience and pride. How it plays out in a given life depends on the house Aries occupies for the rising sign, which is set out below.

Dignity
The Sun is exalted in Aries, deepest at 10°. Exaltation is the highest sign dignity in BPHS: the Sun's significations — identity, authority, the father and the will to shine — come out at their best. It still has to work through the houses it rules for the ascendant, so an exalted functional malefic gives strong results of a demanding house. Within the sign, the closer to 10°, the stronger.
The Vedic view
Classical texts that describe the Sun in each sign (Saravali and Brihat Jataka among them) treat the Sun in Aries as one of its finest positions: the self is clear, energetic and willing to lead. Aries is ruled by Mars, the Sun's friend, and the Sun reaches its deepest exaltation at 10°, inside the nakshatra Ashwini. In the sidereal zodiac the Sun is in Aries from about mid-April to mid-May, beginning with Mesha Sankranti, the solar new year in many Indian calendars.
The strength is real but not automatic. An exalted the Sun in a difficult house, or ruling a dusthana for the ascendant, still carries those themes; and exaltation can tip into domination if the rest of the chart offers no softness.
Character and temperament
Sun signifies identity, authority, the father and the will to shine; Aries is direct, quick and self-starting. Aries's movable quality means the placement starts things, moves fast and likes initiative.
Strengths: courage, initiative, decisiveness, vitality and leadership by example. Its deeper gift is moral courage and the ability to stand alone for what is right.
Challenges: impatience, pride, and difficulty taking advice or sharing credit. The shadow to watch is pride that cannot admit a mistake.
Love and marriage
In relationships it is warm and protective but needs to lead; partners who are confident in themselves suit this the Sun. Generally the Sun needs a partner who respects their dignity and lets them lead some of the time. Here the style is impatient, passionate love. Being a fire sign, Aries needs warmth, enthusiasm and some adventure. The Sun shows pride and the need for respect, so in love it describes what the person must feel honoured for. The placement speaks most directly about marriage for Libra rising, where Aries is the 7th house and the Sun rules the 11th. Romance is in focus for Sagittarius rising, where Aries is the 5th. More broadly, the Sun brings pride and loyalty into love: the person wants a partner they can respect and who respects them, and ego clashes are the main risk.
Career and money
At work it favours leadership, entrepreneurship, government, the armed forces, surgery and sport. Professionally, the Sun seeks visible responsibility, government or leadership roles and work that carries their name. Aries, being movable, starts things, moves fast and likes initiative, which shapes the working style. Career is front and centre for Cancer rising, where Aries is the 10th house and the Sun sits there with directional strength (dig bala) as lord of the 2nd. Weighing lordship, dignity and house together, the placement works best for Aries rising and Leo rising, and asks most effort of Pisces rising and Libra rising. Financially, money tends to follow authority and position. Wealth themes are strongest for Pisces rising (the 2nd house) and Gemini rising (the 11th).
Health and wellbeing
For wellbeing, tradition favours tradition links the Sun with vitality and heat; rest and cooling habits balance an exalted the Sun. The planet's areas are vitality, the heart, eyesight and the backbone; the sign's are the head and face. A helpful habit: morning sunlight and keeping one promise a day without exception. This is traditional astrology, not medical advice.
The dispositor
Mars rules Aries, so Mars is the Sun's dispositor. In Parashari practice the results pass through Mars: its house shows where they land, its dignity how fully. If Mars is at the same time in a sign the Sun rules (Leo), the two are in parivartana, an exchange of signs, a strong mutual link.
By nakshatra
Within Aries, the Sun falls in one of these nakshatras, whose lord becomes a second dispositor and shares in its periods:
0°–13°20′: the Sun in Ashwini, ruled by Ketu; deity the Ashvins, twin physicians of the gods; for work it points to first responders, medicine, horses and vehicles, and anything that needs speed.
13°20′–26°40′: the Sun in Bharani, ruled by Venus, an enemy to the Sun; deity Yama, lord of death and dharma; its gift is moral strength under load and its shadow judgement and possessiveness.
26°40′–30°: the Sun in Krittika, the Sun's own nakshatra, so the placement is concentrated; deity Agni, god of fire; for money it earns by decisiveness and courage.
By rising sign
Lordship changes with the rising sign, so the table below shows where the Sun in Aries sits and what it governs in each case.

Navamsa and the two zodiacs
If the Sun is between 0° and 3°20′ Aries, it is vargottama (same sign in the navamsa), a classical sign of steadiness. Readers who know their Western chart may find the Sun in Taurus there: the sidereal–tropical gap is roughly 24°.
Sun transiting Aries
Time in the sign: about a month in each sign. Counted from the natal Moon (Phaladeepika ch. 26), the classically favourable Moon signs for this transit are Aquarius, Scorpio, Cancer and Gemini; vedha and ashtakavarga then refine the picture.
The Western view
In Western astrology the Sun is exalted in Aries too (traditionally at 19°). Tropical Aries begins at the March equinox, so many people with a Western Aries the Sun have a sidereal the Sun in Pisces. Modern astrologers describe the Aries the Sun as pioneering, direct and competitive.
