Dignity
The Sun is in a friend's sign, ruled by Mars. By BPHS natural relationships the Sun counts Mars as a friend, while Mars counts the Sun as a friend — mutual friends. A friendly host lets it work smoothly; how strong Mars is by sign and house decides much.
The Vedic view
Scorpio is a fixed water sign ruled by Mars, the Sun's friend. Classical descriptions of the Sun in Scorpio mix courage and strength with intensity and sometimes conflict. The Sun spans the last pada of Vishakha, Anuradha and Jyeshtha; in Anuradha it is loyal and disciplined, in Jyeshtha protective and powerful.
In the sidereal zodiac the Sun is in Scorpio from about mid-November to mid-December.
Character and temperament
Put the Sun — identity, authority, the father and the will to shine — into a sign that is intense, private and transforming, and the result leans water. As a fixed sign, Scorpio sticks with a project and builds slowly to last, and the Sun takes on that rhythm.
Strengths: determination, depth, courage, resilience and strategic intelligence. At its best this is moral courage and the ability to stand alone for what is right.
Challenges: secrecy, intensity and difficulty letting go. Left unchecked, it slides toward pride that cannot admit a mistake.
Love and marriage
In relationships it is loyal and intense; needs trust. The Sun in any sign needs a partner who respects their dignity and lets them lead some of the time; in Scorpio that becomes deep, all-or-nothing love. Its water element needs emotional depth, reassurance and loyalty. The Sun shows pride and the need for respect, so in love it describes what the person must feel honoured for. For Taurus rising this is the Sun in the 7th, the house of the spouse, as lord of the 4th. With Cancer rising it sits in the 5th house of courtship and children. Its general tone in love: the Sun wants admiration and loyalty from a partner; the relationship works when both people can shine without competing.
Career and money
At work it favours research, medicine, investigation, security and crisis work. The Sun seeks visible responsibility, government or leadership roles and work that carries their name. The fixed sign gives a working style that sticks with a project and builds slowly to last. For Aquarius rising, Scorpio is the 10th house of career, so this placement with directional strength (dig bala) becomes a main career signature. Across the twelve ascendants it scores highest for Leo rising and Aries rising and is most demanding for Gemini rising and Libra rising. Where money is concerned, income rises with responsibility and recognition rather than speculation. It falls in the money houses for Libra rising (2nd) and Capricorn rising (11th).
Health and wellbeing
For wellbeing, tradition favours honest emotional release helps. The Sun is linked with vitality, the heart, eyesight and the backbone, and Scorpio with the reproductive and eliminative organs, so these are the areas tradition watches. A helpful habit: morning sunlight and keeping one promise a day without exception. This is traditional astrology, not medical advice.
The dispositor
Mars rules Scorpio, so Mars is the Sun's dispositor. Think of Mars as the manager the Sun reports to here: Mars's placement decides where the Sun's work in Scorpio ends up. If Mars is at the same time in a sign the Sun rules (Leo), the two are in parivartana, an exchange of signs, a strong mutual link.
By nakshatra
The degree decides the nakshatra, and each brings its own lord into the Sun's story:
0°–3°20′: the Sun in Vishakha, ruled by Jupiter, a friend to the Sun; deity Indra and Agni together (Indragni); for work it points to politics, competition, research, campaigns and goal-driven work.
3°20′–16°40′: the Sun in Anuradha, ruled by Saturn, an enemy to the Sun; deity Mitra, god of friendship and agreements; its gift is devotion and friendship and its shadow clinging and holding grudges.
16°40′–30°: the Sun in Jyeshtha, ruled by Mercury, neutral to the Sun; deity Indra, king of the gods; for money it earns through authority and responsibility.

Navamsa and the two zodiacs
Between 13°20′ and 16°40′ Scorpio, the Sun is vargottama — in Scorpio in both the birth chart and the navamsa (D9) — which classical texts treat as a mark of consistency and strength. Because the sidereal zodiac is now about 24° behind the tropical one, the Sun in sidereal Scorpio is often in tropical Sagittarius in a Western chart; both are valid within their own system.

Time in the sign: about a month in each sign. From the Moon, the transit is classed as good for those with the Moon in Virgo, Gemini, Aquarius and Capricorn (Phaladeepika ch. 26), subject to vedha and ashtakavarga.
