How this calculator works

Each house is ruled by the lord of the sign on it: with whole-sign houses, as used here, the house is one whole sign counted from your Lagna, and its lord is that sign’s ruler. Where the lord sits shows where the house’s matters are carried and delivered in life.

With the lord you see its sign and degree, its nakshatra and pada, its dignity, the planets that join it and the planets that aspect it by the full Parashari aspects (every planet on the 7th; Mars also on the 4th and 8th, Jupiter on the 5th and 9th, Saturn on the 3rd and 10th).

How do I find the lord of a house?

Find the sign on a house (counting signs from your Lagna) and take its ruler: Mars rules Aries and Scorpio, Venus Taurus and Libra, Mercury Gemini and Virgo, the Moon Cancer, the Sun Leo, Jupiter Sagittarius and Pisces, Saturn Capricorn and Aquarius.

Do Rahu and Ketu rule houses?

Not in the classical scheme we use. Some authors make Rahu co-lord of Aquarius and Ketu of Scorpio; we follow the traditional seven rulers.

Do I need my birth time?

Yes. House lords depend on the Lagna, which changes about every two hours.
