How this calculator works

For each planet you get its sidereal sign and degree (to the arc-minute), its nakshatra and pada, the nakshatra lord, the house it occupies counted from your Lagna, whether it is retrograde, and its dignity: exalted, own sign, a friend’s or enemy’s sign, or debilitated.

The sign is 30°, a nakshatra 13°20′ and a pada 3°20′, so the degree decides all three. Rahu and Ketu are always exactly opposite each other.

Questions

Which zodiac do you use?

The sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, as most Indian astrologers do. Western (tropical) positions are about 24° further on.

Why is my house different on another site?

We use whole-sign houses, the default of Parashari practice: each house is one whole sign counted from the Lagna. Systems such as Placidus or KP cusps can move a planet into the next house.

Are positions accurate?

Positions are checked against NASA JPL Horizons to under an arc-minute. The usual source of error is the birth time and place, not the calculation.
