How this calculator works
The Moon passes through one nakshatra (13°20′) in about a day, and one pada (3°20′) in about six hours, so the birth time matters. Your nakshatra’s lord sets the first period of your Vimshottari dasha, and the pada is traditionally used for the first syllable of a name.
Calculated in your browser from the same chart as our free Kundli: sidereal zodiac, Lahiri ayanamsa, whole-sign houses, mean node. The numbers match our free Kundli exactly.
Questions
What is a janma nakshatra?
The nakshatra (one of 27 lunar mansions) the Moon occupied at your birth. It is also called your birth star.
What is a pada?
Each nakshatra has four quarters (padas) of 3°20′. The pada fixes the Navamsa sign of the Moon and, traditionally, the first syllable of a name.
How does the nakshatra set my dasha?
Vimshottari dasha starts with the period of the nakshatra’s lord; how far the Moon has gone through the nakshatra decides how much of that period remained at birth.
