In short: Ketu in Cancer brings the south node's detachment and instinct into Cancer's territory: detachment from home and a deep, private emotional life. Rahu sits opposite in Capricorn, so the axis runs between the familiar, inherited ease of Cancer and the unfamiliar pull of Capricorn. Which life area it colours depends on the ascendant: the table further down shows each one.

Dignity
Ketu's dignity in Cancer is not defined in the main classical schemes. With node dignities disputed, the Moon (the dispositor) and the nakshatra lord carry most of the weight in reading Ketu here. In Cancer the dispositor is the Moon, whose own condition therefore sets the tone.
The Vedic view
Ketu has no sign of its own, so in Cancer it acts largely through the Moon, the sign's lord, and through the nakshatra it occupies. Classical texts treat Ketu as a separator and a significator of liberation: where it sits, a person often has instinctive skill and little attachment. Modern Vedic astrologers read Ketu in Cancer as Cancer's themes known so well — as if from before — that they are held lightly; the challenge is that what comes easily can also be neglected.
With Rahu in Capricorn, the person is drawn toward Capricorn's themes with hunger, while Cancer offers the gifts to draw on. Lal Kitab, which reads Ketu by house rather than sign, gives its own remedies for each placement.
In the Moon's sign, Ketu meets one of the luminaries it eclipses; emotional detachment or unusual intuition are common themes, and the Moon's placement is read closely.
Character and temperament
The planet brings detachment, past skill, spirituality, research and letting go; the sign makes it protective, emotional and home-centred. Cancer's movable quality means the placement starts things, moves fast and likes initiative.
Strengths: instinctive skill, intuition and freedom from attachment in Cancer's areas of life. The gift underneath is deep intuition and mastery that looks effortless.
Challenges: neglect, a sense of absence and sudden endings around the same themes. Its familiar trap is withdrawal and dismissing what one already has.
Love and marriage
The Moon, the lord of Cancer, sets the agenda: it needs emotional safety, regular tenderness and a partner who notices moods. Ketu detaches from that agenda. With Rahu across the axis in Capricorn, the lesson is to balance nurturing, family-centred love with committed, responsible love. Ketu in any sign can feel distant or self-sufficient in love and needs a partner who respects their solitude; in Cancer that becomes nurturing, family-centred love. Its water element needs emotional depth, reassurance and loyalty. For Capricorn rising, Cancer is the 7th, so Ketu sits in the marriage house itself. As a rule, Ketu loves quietly and without possessiveness, sometimes holding back until trust is complete.
Career and money
For work, the Moon the dispositor does well with the public, care, food, hospitality and anything that nourishes, and Ketu pushes it toward specialist, research or behind-the-scenes versions. In general Ketu suits research, healing, technical precision, occult studies, coding and spiritual work. Work-wise the movable sign starts things, moves fast and likes initiative. Libra rising places it in the 10th house of profession. On money, money matters can feel detached or erratic, so simple systems work best. The 2nd and 11th houses, the wealth pair, are Cancer for Gemini rising and Virgo rising respectively.
Health and wellbeing
Ketu is linked with mysterious or recurring complaints, injuries and the nervous system, and Cancer with the chest, breasts and stomach, so these are the areas tradition watches. A helpful habit: meditation or prayer and finishing what one starts. This is traditional astrology, not medical advice.
The dispositor
The Moon rules Cancer, so the Moon is Ketu's dispositor. Wherever the Moon sits by house and sign is where Ketu's energy in Cancer is finally spent; a strong Moon supports it, a weak one asks more of it.
By nakshatra
Within Cancer, Ketu falls in one of these nakshatras, whose lord becomes a second dispositor and shares in its periods:
0°–3°20′: Ketu in Punarvasu, ruled by Jupiter; deity Aditi, mother of the gods; for work it points to teaching, publishing, travel, hospitality and second-chance work.
3°20′–16°40′: Ketu in Pushya, ruled by Saturn; deity Brihaspati, teacher of the gods; its gift is nourishment and its shadow smothering care.
16°40′–30°: Ketu in Ashlesha, ruled by Mercury; deity the Sarpas or Nagas, the serpent beings; for money it earns through insight and strategy.
By rising sign
The same Ketu in Cancer lands in a different house, and answers to a dispositor with different lordships, for each ascendant. Each row links to the full reading:

Navamsa and the two zodiacs
The vargottama zone of Cancer is 0°–3°20′: there Ketu occupies the same sign in the D1 and the D9, and its results are more reliable. Readers who know their Western chart may find Ketu in Leo there: the sidereal–tropical gap is roughly 24°.
Ketu transiting Cancer
Time in the sign: about eighteen months in each sign (moving backwards). Transits are judged from the natal Moon: following Phaladeepika ch. 26, this transit is traditionally favourable for Moon signs Taurus, Aquarius and Virgo, before vedha and ashtakavarga refine it. While the nodes cross Cancer and Capricorn, eclipses fall on this axis, and the houses these signs occupy in a chart become restless or active.
The Western view
In Western astrology the South Node in Cancer is read, in modern evolutionary astrology, as familiar ground — past mastery of home and family — with growth found by moving toward the North Node in Capricorn. Medieval astrology gave the South Node exaltation in Sagittarius; tropical and sidereal positions differ by about a sign, so check which zodiac a chart uses.
