In short: The Moon in Aries gives a quick, direct and courageous emotional nature: feelings rise fast, are expressed openly and pass quickly. The mind is enterprising and independent, and needs action to feel settled. The rising sign decides which house Aries becomes, and so where these qualities are lived.

Dignity
The Moon is in a neutral sign, ruled by Mars. By BPHS natural relationships the Moon counts Mars as neutral, while Mars counts the Moon as a friend — a one-sided relationship. A mixed relationship gives mixed ease; how strong Mars is by sign and house decides much. For the Moon, phase matters as much as sign: a bright Moon well away from the Sun gives these results fully, a dark one more quietly.
The Vedic view
Aries is a movable fire sign ruled by Mars, which BPHS treats as neutral to the Moon. Classical descriptions of the Moon in Aries emphasise a bold, quick-tempered and active nature, fondness for travel, and pride. The Moon here spans Ashwini, Bharani and the first pada of Krittika: in Ashwini the emotions are quick and helpful, in Bharani intense and enduring, in Krittika sharp and principled. Because the Moon's sign is the Vedic rashi, this placement also sets the person's Moon-sign horoscope, the starting point for Sade Sati and transit readings, and much of marriage matching.
Character and temperament
The planet brings the mind, feelings, the mother, home and public mood; the sign makes it direct, quick and self-starting. Being movable, the sign starts things, moves fast and likes initiative.
Strengths: courage, spontaneity, honesty, enthusiasm and quick recovery from upset. Its deeper gift is empathy and the ability to make others feel at home.
Challenges: impatience, irritability and restlessness when inactive. Left unchecked, it slides toward moodiness and taking everything personally.
Love and marriage
In relationships it is direct and passionate; needs a partner who is not threatened by quick feelings. Generally the Moon needs emotional safety, regular tenderness and a partner who notices moods. Here the style is impatient, passionate love. Aries is a fire sign, and in love it needs warmth, enthusiasm and some adventure. The Moon's sign is also the janma rashi, the sign used for compatibility matching (Ashtakoota), so Aries matters directly in traditional match-making. Aries becomes the 7th house, marriage itself, for Libra rising: there the Moon also rules the 10th and is neutral (benefic owning an angle: kendradhipati). With Sagittarius rising it sits in the 5th house of courtship and children. As a rule, the Moon makes love emotional and nurturing: the person needs closeness, reassurance and a partner who understands moods.
Career and money
At work it favours active, independent and competitive work. Professionally, the Moon does well with the public, care, food, hospitality and anything that nourishes. Work-wise the movable sign starts things, moves fast and likes initiative. Career is front and centre for Cancer rising, where Aries is the 10th house and the Moon sits there as lord of the 1st. Across the twelve ascendants it scores highest for Cancer rising and Pisces rising and is most demanding for Taurus rising and Virgo rising. Where money is concerned, finances fluctuate with mood and circumstance, so a reserve fund gives peace of mind. The 2nd and 11th houses, the wealth pair, are Aries for Pisces rising and Gemini rising respectively.
Health and wellbeing
For wellbeing, tradition favours exercise calms an Aries the Moon; so do pauses before reacting. Traditionally the Moon governs sleep, fluids, digestion and emotional rhythm and Aries governs the head and face. A helpful habit: a fixed bedtime and a few minutes of quiet each evening. This is traditional astrology, not medical advice.
The dispositor
Mars rules Aries, so Mars is the Moon's dispositor. In Parashari practice the results pass through Mars: its house shows where they land, its dignity how fully. If Mars is at the same time in a sign the Moon rules (Cancer), the two are in parivartana, an exchange of signs, a strong mutual link.
By nakshatra
Within Aries, the Moon falls in one of these nakshatras, whose lord becomes a second dispositor and shares in its periods:
0°–13°20′: the Moon in Ashwini, ruled by Ketu; deity the Ashvins, twin physicians of the gods; its gift is healing speed and its shadow impatience.
13°20′–26°40′: the Moon in Bharani, ruled by Venus, neutral to the Moon; deity Yama, lord of death and dharma; for money it handles large burdens and large sums with endurance.
26°40′–30°: the Moon in Krittika, ruled by the Sun, a friend to the Moon; deity Agni, god of fire; in love it is honest to the point of sharpness and protective of loved ones.

Navamsa and the two zodiacs
If the Moon is between 0° and 3°20′ Aries, it is vargottama (same sign in the navamsa), a classical sign of steadiness. A Western (tropical) chart will often show this the Moon in Taurus, since the two zodiacs are about 24° apart.
Moon transiting Aries
Time in the sign: about two and a quarter days in each sign. Counted from the natal Moon (Phaladeepika ch. 26), the classically favourable Moon signs for this transit are Aries, Aquarius, Scorpio, Libra, Cancer and Gemini; vedha and ashtakavarga then refine the picture.
The Western view
In Western astrology the Moon in Aries is peregrine. Modern astrologers describe it as emotionally impulsive, independent and quick to anger and to forgive.
