Points for the four nakshatra kootas. Gana is not symmetrical in the table we use, so it is shown both ways: with you as the bride and with you as the groom. Tara, Yoni and Nadi are the same either way.

Nadi dosha
Dhanishta is in the Madhya (Pitta) nadi. A partner whose Moon is in any of these nakshatras scores 0 of 8 for Nadi: Bharani, Mrigashira, Pushya, Purva Phalguni, Chitra, Anuradha, Purva Ashadha, Dhanishta, Uttara Bhadrapada.
Matching manuals list exceptions — for example the same nakshatra in different padas or different signs, or the same Moon sign with different nakshatras — and authorities differ on them. Nadi is a traditional classification, not a medical test. See Guna Milan explained for the full discussion.
Yoni and Gana
Dhanishta's yoni is the lion. Its traditional enemy is the elephant, which scores 0 for Yoni. As a Rakshasa nakshatra, it scores 6 for Gana with another Rakshasa star. Deva and Manushya mix well in most tables, while Rakshasa paired with either of the others scores lowest. 'Rakshasa' describes an independent, forceful temperament, not a moral failing.
What the nakshatras cannot tell you
The other 15 points of Ashtakoota — Varna (1), Vashya (2), Graha Maitri (5) and Bhakoot (7) — depend on the two Moon signs, and Dhanishta spans two signs, so the same pair of nakshatras can score differently depending on the pada. See the Moon sign compatibility pages, and use the Guna Milan tool for the full 36-point calculation from both birth details.
Beyond the score, astrologers compare the two whole charts: the 7th houses and their lords, Venus, the navamsa, Mangal dosha and the dashas each person will run.
FAQ
Which nakshatra is best for Dhanishta? At the nakshatra level, Shatabhisha and Magha score highest in our tables. The full match also depends on the Moon signs and the whole charts.
Can Dhanishta marry Dhanishta? Two Dhanishta Moons share a nadi, so Nadi dosha applies (0 of 8), though several manuals relax it when the padas or signs differ. The other three kootas score 3, 4 and 6.
Why does my total differ from another website's? Gana, Vashya and some Yoni tables differ between almanacs, and sites differ on ayanamsa and on applying exceptions. We use the saravali.de tables and say so.
