11th House in Scorpio: Gains and Income (Capricorn Ascendant)

In short: In whole-sign houses, Scorpio (Vrishchika) falls on the 11th house only for a Capricorn ascendant. It colours gains and friendships with Scorpio's qualities, and makes Mars the 11th lord — for this ascendant also ruling the 4th house. Where Mars sits, and which planets occupy or aspect Scorpio, decide how the promise unfolds. Read this as one layer of a chart, never as a verdict.

At a glance

Gains, income and friends

With Scorpio on the 11th, gains may come through research, shared resources, insurance, investigation or confidential work. Friendships are few and deep. Wishes are pursued with determination. Trust within one's network is precious; betrayal is not easily forgiven.

Fixed signs on the 11th are read for steady, recurring gains and long friendships.

The 11th is the sign before the ascendant, an upachaya (growth) house in which even difficult planets tend to improve with time. For a Capricorn ascendant its lord, Mars, is read with the 2nd lord for income and with the 5th and 9th lords for fortune.

The 11th lord: Mars

For a Capricorn ascendant, Mars is classified in the general Parashari rules (BPHS ch. 34) as difficult (rules 11th). Because it also rules the 4th, its periods and placement mix that theme with gains. Its house, sign and associations carry the 11th house's promise. The table gives Mars's sign and dignity in each house for this ascendant; each row links to the full reading.

Planets in the 11th house in Scorpio

A planet in Scorpio on the 11th house is read with its dignity in this sign and its lordship for a Capricorn ascendant:

The 11th is the one house where the tradition reads almost every planet as helpful: benefics give gains easily, and malefics — Saturn, Mars, Rahu — are read as gains through effort, persistence or unconventional means.

Timing

Periods of Mars (the 11th lord), of planets in Scorpio, and of planets aspecting it are those astrologers examine for gains and the fulfilment of wishes. Jupiter's transits through Scorpio and over Mars are read as supportive. See wealth in the birth chart.

The Western view

In Western astrology the matching point is the 11th house cusp, read for friends, groups, hopes and the rewards of one's work. Two differences matter. Western charts use the tropical zodiac, about 24° ahead of the sidereal, so a Vedic Scorpio 11th house often corresponds to a Western Sagittarius 11th house cusp. And with quadrant houses (Placidus and others), the 11th house cusp need not fall in the sign of the whole-sign 11th house. Compare like with like.
