In short: In whole-sign houses, Aries (Mesha) falls on the 7th house only for a Libra ascendant. It colours partnership with Aries's qualities, and makes Mars the 7th lord — for this ascendant also ruling the 2nd house. Where Mars sits, and which planets occupy or aspect Aries, decide how the promise unfolds. Read this as one layer of a chart, never as a verdict.

The partner and the partnership
With Aries on the 7th, partnership is sought with someone direct, energetic and independent — a person who takes initiative and says what they think. Relationships tend to begin quickly and carry a spark of competition or challenge. The partnership works best when both people have their own goals and support each other's courage, and when disagreements are aired and finished rather than stored. The lesson of this placement is that a partner's independence is not a rejection.
Movable (chara) signs on the 7th are read for initiative and change in partnership: relationships that begin decisively and evolve.
The 7th is always the sign opposite the ascendant. For a Libra ascendant, the self is described by Libra and the partner by Aries: the two signs share a mode (movable) and complementary elements (air and fire), so a partner often supplies what the person is still learning.
The 7th lord: Mars
For a Libra ascendant, Mars is classified in the general Parashari rules (BPHS ch. 34) as neutral to good (malefic owning an angle) · maraka. Because it also rules the 2nd, its periods and placement mix that theme with partnership. Its house, sign and associations carry the 7th house's promise. The table gives Mars's sign and dignity in each house for this ascendant; each row links to the full reading.

Timing
Periods of Mars (the 7th lord), of planets in Aries, and of planets aspecting it are those astrologers examine for partnership. Jupiter's transit through Aries — about one year in twelve — or its aspect on Aries is the classic supportive trigger. See marriage timing.
The Western view
In Western astrology the matching point is the Descendant, read for the qualities we look for — and sometimes project onto — partners. Two differences matter. Western charts use the tropical zodiac, about 24° ahead of the sidereal, so a Vedic Aries 7th house often corresponds to a Western Taurus Descendant. And with quadrant houses (Placidus and others), the Descendant need not fall in the sign of the whole-sign 7th house. Compare like with like.
FAQ
Which ascendant has Aries on the 7th house? Only Libra, in the whole-sign system used here. With other house systems the 7th cusp can fall in Aries for neighbouring ascendants too.
Is Aries a good sign for the 7th house? No sign is good or bad on its own. What matters is the condition of Mars, the planets in Aries, and the aspects it receives.
Where should I read next? Mars as 7th lord in each house, the Libra ascendant profile, and the guide to marriage in the birth chart.
