What it means for you
Rahu in the 7th house: what is likely
If Rahu sits in your 7th house (counted from your ascendant), this is what the placement most often brings.
- Love & marriageNeeds careRahu brings intensity — and lessons in maturity — to marriage, partners and agreements: expect an unusual partner or an intense attraction to colour this part of life.
- CareerMixedRahu brings intensity — and lessons in maturity — to career: expect ambition, technology, media and foreign links to colour this part of life.
How strongly: more marked if the sign’s lord is strong; Rahu and Ketu give the results of the planet that rules their sign.
When it shows most: in Rahu’s mahadasha or antardasha, and from about age 42, when Rahu traditionally “matures”. Transits of Jupiter and Saturn over your 7th house switch it on for a year or two.
Why we say this
- Rahu is a natural shadow planet (node); the 7th house is an angle (kendra).
- Malefics do best in the houses of growth (3rd, 6th, 10th, 11th), where their drive becomes results; in the angles and the 8th and 12th they ask for maturity.
- The 7th house speaks for marriage, partners and agreements.
These are tendencies from one placement. Your whole chart — the sign, the house lord, aspects and your dashas — decides how they play out. Make your free kundli to see your own.
In short: Rahu in the 7th house brings the planet of the unfamiliar into the house of partnership. It often describes attraction to unconventional or foreign partners, intense relationships, partnerships that break family expectations, and dealings with the public. Ketu sits opposite, in the 1st.

The Vedic view
The 7th house is marriage, partners and trade. Classical texts (Phaladeepika ch. 8) are cautious about Rahu here for marriage; modern readings emphasise unusual, cross-cultural or late partnerships and success in foreign trade. With Ketu in the 1st, the person may feel detached from their own identity while seeking themselves through others.
Strengths and challenges
Strengths: openness to different people and cultures, success in trade and public dealings.
Challenges: confusion or illusion in partnership, and restlessness in commitment.
Love and marriage
Marriage is where Rahu speaks loudest in this chart. Sitting directly on the house of the spouse, it often brings a partner who is markedly different: foreign-born, from another caste or religion, notably older or younger, divorced before, or simply far outside what the family pictured. The attraction can feel fated and consuming. Ketu in the 1st, meanwhile, can make the native unsure of their own needs, so they may mould themselves to the partner and later resent it. Classical texts are cautious here, and many astrologers prefer a later or carefully considered wedding, though plenty of these marriages are long and loyal. Venus, the 7th lord and, for a woman's chart in traditional reading, Jupiter tell more than Rahu does. Rahu mahadasha or transit over the 7th can bring sudden proposals. Caution belongs with idealising a partner. A practical suggestion: meet the partner's family and friends early and observe how they treat people who cannot help them.
Career and money
Business partnerships and public dealing light up with this placement. The 7th is a kendra of trade and contracts, and Rahu there favours import and export, international business development, diplomacy, consulting, matchmaking platforms, legal negotiation, customer-facing sales, franchising and joint ventures with overseas firms. The native tends to work best alongside someone else, though the choice of partner is critical: some are brilliant and some are opportunists. Money often arrives through deals, commissions and the spouse's resources, occasionally in large bursts after signing a contract. Disagreements over shares or misleading agreements are the chief financial risk. Its full opposition aspect strikes the lagna, so success can strongly reshape self-image. Saturn, which has digbala in this house, is worth checking as a stabiliser. A practical suggestion: insist on written partnership terms, independent accounts and an exit clause before any money changes hands.
How it shows up day to day
Their wedding photos might mix two languages, two cuisines and two sets of puzzled relatives. At work they are the person sent to charm a new overseas client. Friends notice that they light up around their partner and seem a little lost when alone. They read contract fine print slowly, having learnt the hard way. Even casual chats drift towards questions about other people's relationships, which they find endlessly interesting and rarely judge.
Health and daily rhythm
In medical astrology the 7th house touches the lower back, kidneys and reproductive health, and Rahu is linked with unusual or hard-to-diagnose complaints, anxiety and addictions. These are areas to look after rather than predictions. A habit that suits the placement: a clear limit on screens, speculation and stimulants.
How the rising sign changes it
In whole-sign houses, Rahu in the 7th house falls in a different sign for each ascendant, which changes its dignity and the houses it rules. Sign-level dignities follow BPHS ch. 3.
| Rising sign | Sign occupied | Sign lord (dispositor) | Note on dignity |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aries | Libra | Venus | — |
| Taurus | Scorpio | Mars | debilitated in one school |
| Gemini | Sagittarius | Jupiter | debilitated in another school |
| Cancer | Capricorn | Saturn | — |
| Leo | Aquarius | Saturn | own sign in one school (with Saturn) |
| Virgo | Pisces | Jupiter | — |
| Libra | Aries | Mars | — |
| Scorpio | Taurus | Venus | exalted in one school |
| Sagittarius | Gemini | Mercury | exalted in another school |
| Capricorn | Cancer | Moon | — |
| Aquarius | Leo | Sun | — |
| Pisces | Virgo | Mercury | own sign in another school |
Lordship
Rahu rules no sign, so in the 7th house it works through its dispositor — the lord of the sign it occupies (see the table above) — and, in KP, through its star lord. Where that dispositor sits decides how much of marriage, partners and contracts Rahu can actually deliver.
Nakshatra and navamsa
Within the 7th house, the nakshatra Rahu occupies decides which side of marriage, partners and contracts it emphasises, through the star lord's dasha. For example, compare Rahu in Punarvasu, Anuradha, Shatabhisha. If it is also vargottama (the same sign in the birth chart and the navamsa), the house results are steadier.
Aspects and conjunctions
From the 7th house, Rahu aspects the 1st house (self, body and vitality) by its 7th-house aspect. Many schools also give the nodes 5th and 9th aspects, which from here reach the 11th and 3rd houses. If Venus (one of the 7th house's natural significators) sits with it, affection and refinement become part of how Rahu deals with marriage. Any conjunction is judged by the dignity of both planets and by the houses each one rules.
In the Rahu dasha
Rahu periods tend to bring unusual partnerships, foreign dealings and relationship changes forward.
In transit
This page describes the natal placement. When Rahu transits the 7th house counted from the natal Moon, Phaladeepika (ch. 26) does not count this among its favourable transit positions; Rahu is traditionally favourable in transit only in the 3rd, 6th, 11th houses from the Moon.
The Lal Kitab view
Lal Kitab reads houses as fixed signs, so the 7th house always behaves like Libra there, with its own judgements and remedies (upay) that belong to that system.
The Western view
In Western astrology the North Node in the 7th house points toward partnership and cooperation, with the South Node in the 1st showing a familiar self-reliance.
The 7th–1st axis
Rahu in the 7th always has Ketu exactly opposite, in the 1st house, so this placement is one half of an axis: Rahu pushes towards marriage, while Ketu brings ready-made skill but some detachment in self. Read Ketu in the 1st house for the other half.
Compared with the neighbouring houses
One house earlier, Rahu in the 6th house works through work, service, health habits, debts and rivals; here in the 7th it turns to marriage, partners and contracts; one house later, in the 8th, the focus becomes transformation, shared resources and the hidden. If the birth time is uncertain near a house cusp, read the neighbouring page too.
Traditional remedies
Tradition offers simple observances rather than purchases. Rahu's are limiting stimulants and screens, and Durga worship, on Saturday, and the Durga Saptashati or Rahu mantra. The 7th house's own significator is Venus; supporting it — respecting women, keeping surroundings clean and beautiful, and Lakshmi worship — helps the house itself.
FAQ
Does Rahu in the 7th house mean an inter-caste or foreign marriage? It increases the likelihood of a partner from a different background, culture or country, but it is a tendency rather than a rule. The 7th lord, Venus, the navamsa and dasha timing all need to be read. Many with this placement marry within their community too.
Is Rahu in the 7th house good for business? It is often supportive of trade, foreign deals and partnerships, and can bring notable income through contracts. The risk is trusting the wrong associate. Clear legal agreements, separate accounts and checking references protect the gains this position can offer, especially during Rahu mahadasha.
Which houses does Rahu aspect from the 7th? The 1st house — and, in some schools, two more by 5th and 9th aspects.
How long is the Rahu dasha? 18 years in the Vimshottari system. The placement's themes tend to come forward in Rahu's mahadasha and antardashas.
