In short: In whole-sign houses, Libra (Tula) falls on the 10th house only for a Capricorn ascendant. It colours work and reputation with Libra's qualities, and makes Venus the 10th lord — for this ascendant also ruling the 5th house. Where Venus sits, and which planets occupy or aspect Libra, decide how the promise unfolds. Read this as one layer of a chart, never as a verdict.

Work and reputation
With Libra on the 10th, work involves people, balance and aesthetics. Law and mediation, diplomacy, design, fashion, the arts, client relationships and partnerships in business are traditional associations. Saturn is exalted in Libra — read as an affinity for fairness and structure in public life — and Venus, the 10th lord, gives charm in professional dealings.
Movable signs on the 10th are read for initiative and change in career: active roles, travel, or more than one direction over a lifetime.
The 10th is the fourth sign back from the ascendant — square to it in Western terms — and shares its mode (movable). For a Capricorn ascendant, the work the world sees (Libra) often stretches the person's natural style (Capricorn).
The 10th lord: Venus
For a Capricorn ascendant, Venus is classified in the general Parashari rules (BPHS ch. 34) as yogakaraka (best). Because it also rules the 5th, its periods and placement mix that theme with career. Its house, sign and associations carry the 10th house's promise. The table gives Venus's sign and dignity in each house for this ascendant; each row links to the full reading.
| Venus in the… | Sign | Dignity |
|---|---|---|
| 1st house | Capricorn | friend's sign (Saturn) |
| 2nd house | Aquarius | friend's sign (Saturn) |
| 3rd house | Pisces | exalted (deepest at 27°) |
| 4th house | Aries | neutral sign (Mars) |
| 5th house | Taurus | own sign |
| 6th house | Gemini | friend's sign (Mercury) |
| 7th house | Cancer | enemy's sign (Moon) |
| 8th house | Leo | enemy's sign (Sun) |
| 9th house | Virgo | debilitated (deepest at 27°) |
| 10th house | Libra | moolatrikona 0°–15°; own sign |
| 11th house | Scorpio | neutral sign (Mars) |
| 12th house | Sagittarius | neutral sign (Jupiter) |
Planets in the 10th house in Libra
A planet in Libra on the 10th house is read with its dignity in this sign and its lordship for a Capricorn ascendant:
| Planet | Dignity in Libra | Rules (for Capricorn ascendant) |
|---|---|---|
| Sun in the 10th house | debilitated (deepest at 10°) | 8th |
| Moon in the 10th house | neutral sign (Venus) | 7th |
| Mars in the 10th house | neutral sign (Venus) | 4th, 11th |
| Mercury in the 10th house | friend's sign (Venus) | 6th, 9th |
| Jupiter in the 10th house | enemy's sign (Venus) | 3rd, 12th |
| Venus in the 10th house | moolatrikona 0°–15°; own sign | 5th, 10th |
| Saturn in the 10th house | exalted (deepest at 20°) | 1st, 2nd |
| Rahu in the 10th house | sign of Venus | — (nodes own no sign in BPHS) |
| Ketu in the 10th house | sign of Venus | — (nodes own no sign in BPHS) |
The Sun and Mars gain directional strength (dig bala) in the 10th house, so either of them here is read as especially prominent in public life, whatever the sign; their dignity in Libra then says how comfortably that strength is used.
Timing
Periods of Venus (the 10th lord), of planets in Libra, and of planets aspecting it are those astrologers examine for professional change. Saturn's and Jupiter's transits through Libra and over Venus are the slow triggers most watched. See career in the birth chart.
The Western view
In Western astrology the matching point is the Midheaven (MC), read for vocation, reputation and the direction of a life's work. Two differences matter. Western charts use the tropical zodiac, about 24° ahead of the sidereal, so a Vedic Libra 10th house often corresponds to a Western Scorpio Midheaven (MC). And with quadrant houses (Placidus and others), the Midheaven (MC) need not fall in the sign of the whole-sign 10th house. Compare like with like.

Is Libra a good sign for the 10th house? No sign is good or bad on its own. What matters is the condition of Venus, the planets in Libra, and the aspects it receives.
Where should I read next? Venus as 10th lord in each house, the Capricorn ascendant profile, and the guide to career in the birth chart.
