Why we say this
- Transits are counted as houses from your natal Moon sign (Phaladeepika ch. 26).
- Jupiter is favourable in the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th; Saturn and Rahu in the 3rd, 6th and 11th.
- Saturn in the 12th, 1st and 2nd from the Moon is Sade Sati; in the 4th and 8th, dhaiya.
This reads the sky for everyone with this Moon sign; your own dashas and ascendant decide how strongly it lands. Make your free kundli to see your own.
In short: Mesha rashi, the Moon in Aries, describes a quick, brave, independent mind that reacts fast and recovers fast. People of this Moon sign tend to feel best when they are doing something, and to say what they feel.

The Aries mind
A Mesha Moon processes feelings through action. Emotions arrive suddenly and are expressed openly; resentment rarely lasts. Classical descriptions of the Moon in Aries — in Brihat Jataka and later texts — speak of a bold, active, travel-loving temperament with a quick temper. Mars, the sign lord, gives the mind courage and impatience in equal measure, so the Mars placement in the chart shows how easily that energy finds a healthy outlet.
Strengths and challenges
Strengths: courage, enthusiasm, honesty and quick recovery.
Challenges: impatience, irritability and restlessness when inactive.
Relationships, work and wellbeing
Relationships: direct and passionate; needs a partner who is steady but not slow.
Work: active, independent and competitive work suits this mind.
Wellbeing: exercise is the best calmer; so is a pause before reacting. Not medical advice.
By nakshatra
The Moon's nakshatra refines the rashi and sets the Vimshottari dasha a person is born into:

| Bharani | 13°20′–26°40′ | Venus | Yama, lord of death and dharma | Venus (20 years) |
| Krittika | 26°40′–30° | Sun | Agni, god of fire | Sun (6 years) |
Sade Sati and dhaiya for Aries Moon
Sade Sati, the roughly seven-and-a-half-year passage of Saturn over the Moon, runs for an Aries Moon while Saturn transits the 12th, 1st and 2nd signs from it — Saturn in Pisces (12th from the Moon), Aries (1st) and Taurus (2nd). The two-and-a-half-year dhaiya periods come with Saturn in Cancer (4th) and Scorpio (8th). Classical texts read these as periods of pressure and maturing; their actual effects depend on Saturn's strength in the natal chart, the running dasha and the ashtakavarga scores of the signs. Sunyra calculates the exact dates in the kundli.
Favourable transits for Aries Moon
Vedic transit reading (gochara) counts from the natal Moon. Following the favourable houses in Phaladeepika (ch. 26), for an Aries Moon these transits are traditionally supportive, before obstruction (vedha) and ashtakavarga are applied:
| Planet | Traditionally favourable when transiting |
|---|---|
| Jupiter | Taurus, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius and Aquarius |
| Saturn | Gemini, Virgo and Aquarius |
| Rahu and Ketu | Gemini, Virgo and Aquarius |
| Mars | Gemini, Virgo and Aquarius |
| Sun | Gemini, Virgo, Capricorn and Aquarius |
Daily horoscopes by Moon sign on Sunyra are written from the actual transits counted this way — see the horoscope.
Matching notes
In Ashtakoota matching, the Moon sign contributes three of the eight kootas: varna (Kshatriya for Aries), vashya (Chatushpada (quadruped)) and bhakoot, which compares the two Moon signs. Bhakoot is traditionally counted as a dosha when the partner's Moon is 2nd/12th, 6th/8th or 5th/9th from each other:
| Relationship to an Aries Moon | Partner's Moon signs |
|---|---|
| 2/12 (dosha) | Taurus and Pisces |
| 6/8 (dosha) | Virgo and Scorpio |
| 5/9 (dosha) | Leo and Sagittarius |
| No bhakoot dosha | Aries, Gemini, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn and Aquarius |
Classical practice lists cancellations of bhakoot dosha — for example when the two Moon signs share the same lord or their lords are friends — and the whole of both charts matters far more than any one koota. See matching.
The graha maitri koota (up to 5 points) compares the lords of the two Moon signs by their natural friendship in BPHS. For an Aries Moon, whose lord is Mars:
| Partner's Moon sign | Its lord | Graha maitri points |
|---|---|---|
| Aries | Mars | 5 |
| Taurus | Venus | 3 |
| Gemini | Mercury | 0.5 |
| Cancer | Moon | 4 |
| Leo | Sun | 5 |
| Virgo | Mercury | 0.5 |
| Libra | Venus | 3 |
| Scorpio | Mars | 5 |
| Sagittarius | Jupiter | 5 |
| Capricorn | Saturn | 0.5 |
| Aquarius | Saturn | 0.5 |
| Pisces | Jupiter | 5 |
The Western view
In Western astrology the Moon sign is usually tropical, about one sign ahead of the sidereal rashi for most people, so a Vedic Aries Moon is often a Western Taurus Moon. Western astrologers read the Moon sign as emotional needs and instinctive reactions, much as Vedic astrologers read the rashi as the mind.
