In short: Ketu in Sagittarius brings the south node's detachment and instinct into Sagittarius's territory: spiritual depth and detachment from dogma. Rahu sits opposite in Gemini, so the axis runs between the familiar, inherited ease of Sagittarius and the unfamiliar pull of Gemini. Which life area it colours depends on the ascendant: the table further down shows each one.

Dignity

Ketu's dignity in Sagittarius is exalted in another school. The nodes' exaltation and debilitation signs differ between texts, so most Parashari astrologers read Ketu first through its dispositor, Jupiter, then through its nakshatra lord and the planets it joins. In Sagittarius the dispositor is Jupiter, whose own condition therefore sets the tone.

The Vedic view

Ketu has no sign of its own, so in Sagittarius it acts largely through Jupiter, the sign's lord, and through the nakshatra it occupies. Classical texts treat Ketu as a separator and a significator of liberation: where it sits, a person often has instinctive skill and little attachment. Modern Vedic astrologers read Ketu in Sagittarius as Sagittarius's themes known so well — as if from before — that they are held lightly; the challenge is that what comes easily can also be neglected.

With Rahu in Gemini, the person is drawn toward Gemini's themes with hunger, while Sagittarius offers the gifts to draw on. Lal Kitab, which reads Ketu by house rather than sign, gives its own remedies for each placement.

Another school gives Ketu its exaltation in Sagittarius, and Sagittarius contains Mula, Ketu's own nakshatra, the root that is pulled up to find truth. Jupiter's condition as dispositor matters.

Character and temperament

Ketu signifies detachment, past skill, spirituality, research and letting go; Sagittarius is principled, expansive and truth-seeking. Being dual, the sign adapts, juggles more than one role and learns on the move.

Strengths: instinctive skill, intuition and freedom from attachment in Sagittarius's areas of life. At its best this is deep intuition and mastery that looks effortless.

Challenges: neglect, a sense of absence and sudden endings around the same themes. Left unchecked, it slides toward withdrawal and dismissing what one already has.

Love and marriage

Jupiter, the lord of Sagittarius, sets the agenda: it looks for a principled partner and grows love through shared values. Ketu detaches from that agenda. Rahu is always in Gemini at the same time, which sets up a pull between idealistic love that needs shared beliefs and playful love that needs conversation. The planet can feel distant or self-sufficient in love and needs a partner who respects their solitude, and Sagittarius turns it into idealistic love that needs shared beliefs. Sagittarius is a fire sign, and in love it needs warmth, enthusiasm and some adventure. Gemini rising puts Sagittarius, and Ketu, in the 7th house of marriage. More broadly, Ketu loves quietly and without possessiveness, sometimes holding back until trust is complete.

Career and money

Career follows Jupiter, which suits teaching, law, finance, counselling, religion, advisory and senior roles; under Ketu the work is often quiet, expert and done without fanfare. In general Ketu suits research, healing, technical precision, occult studies, coding and spiritual work. Sagittarius, being dual, adapts, juggles more than one role and learns on the move, which shapes the working style. For Pisces rising it sits in the 10th, the house of career, where Ketu's detachment meets public life. Financially, a simple, detached relationship with money works better than chasing it. Wealth themes are strongest for Scorpio rising (the 2nd house) and Aquarius rising (the 11th).

Health and wellbeing

Traditionally Ketu governs mysterious or recurring complaints, injuries and the nervous system and Sagittarius governs the hips and thighs. A helpful habit: meditation or prayer and finishing what one starts. This is traditional astrology, not medical advice.

The dispositor

Jupiter rules Sagittarius, so Jupiter is Ketu's dispositor. In Parashari practice the results pass through Jupiter: its house shows where they land, its dignity how fully.

By nakshatra

Sagittarius holds parts of 3 nakshatras; the one Ketu occupies adds a further layer:

  • 0°–13°20′: Ketu in Mula, Ketu's own nakshatra, so the placement is concentrated; deity Nirriti, goddess of dissolution; its gift is getting to the root and its shadow destructiveness.

  • 13°20′–26°40′: Ketu in Purva Ashadha, ruled by Venus; deity Apas, the cosmic waters; for money it earns through persuasion and confidence.

  • 26°40′–30°: Ketu in Uttara Ashadha, ruled by the Sun; deity the Vishvedevas, the universal gods; in love it is principled and loyal in love, and slow to commit but steady after.

By rising sign

Whole-sign houses make the ascendant decisive: here is Ketu in Sagittarius for each rising sign, with a link to the detailed page.

The vargottama zone of Sagittarius is 26°40′–30°: there Ketu occupies the same sign in the D1 and the D9, and its results are more reliable. Readers who know their Western chart may find Ketu in Capricorn there: the sidereal–tropical gap is roughly 24°.

Ketu transiting Sagittarius

Time in the sign: about eighteen months in each sign (moving backwards). Transits are judged from the natal Moon: following Phaladeepika ch. 26, this transit is traditionally favourable for Moon signs Libra, Cancer and Aquarius, before vedha and ashtakavarga refine it. While the nodes cross Sagittarius and Gemini, eclipses fall on this axis, and the houses these signs occupy in a chart become restless or active.

The Western view

In Western astrology the South Node in Sagittarius is read, in modern evolutionary astrology, as familiar ground — past mastery of belief systems — with growth found by moving toward the North Node in Gemini. Medieval astrology gave the South Node exaltation in Sagittarius; tropical and sidereal positions differ by about a sign, so check which zodiac a chart uses.
