In short: Rahu in Libra brings the north node's hunger for the new into Libra's territory: hunger for partnership, balance and social success. Ketu sits opposite in Aries, so the axis runs between the unfamiliar pull of Libra and the familiar ease of Aries. The rising sign decides which house Libra becomes, and so where these qualities are lived.

Dignity

Rahu's dignity in Libra is not defined in the main classical schemes. The nodes' exaltation and debilitation signs differ between texts, so most Parashari astrologers read Rahu first through its dispositor, Venus, then through its nakshatra lord and the planets it joins. In Libra the dispositor is Venus, whose own condition therefore sets the tone.

The Vedic view

Rahu has no sign of its own, so in Libra it acts largely through Venus, the sign's lord, and through the nakshatra it occupies. Classical texts treat Rahu as a magnifier: it amplifies the matters of its sign and house, often producing ambition, fascination and sudden change. Modern Vedic astrologers read Rahu in Libra as a strong desire to experience Libra's themes — hunger for partnership, balance and social success — which can bring rapid gains in those areas and also restlessness or confusion until the desire is understood.

With Ketu in Aries, the person may feel naturally detached from Aries's themes or have mastered them already; growth tends to come from engaging with Libra consciously while drawing on the skills of Aries. Lal Kitab, which reads Rahu by house rather than sign, gives its own remedies for each placement.

Libra contains Swati, Rahu's own nakshatra, where its independence and business sense are strong. In the later convention that assigns the nodes friends, Venus as dispositor is supportive.

Character and temperament

The planet brings desire, ambition, the foreign, the new and the unconventional; the sign makes it fair, social and harmony-seeking. As a movable sign, Libra starts things, moves fast and likes initiative, and Rahu takes on that rhythm.

Strengths: drive, originality and the courage to pursue Libra's themes in unconventional ways. Its deeper gift is the boldness to break a pattern no one else questions.

Challenges: obsession, dissatisfaction and illusion around the same themes. Its familiar trap is never feeling it is enough.

Love and marriage

Because Venus disposits it, the love life follows Venus's pattern — it is the natural significator of love and marriage itself, seeking harmony, affection and pleasure — with Rahu turning up the intensity. Opposite, Ketu sits in Aries, so relationships swing between Libra's fair, social and harmony-seeking manner and Aries's direct, quick and self-starting one. The planet draws unconventional or cross-cultural attractions and intense, obsessive feelings, and Libra turns it into romantic love that seeks balance. Its air element needs conversation, friendship and room to breathe. In a chart with Aries rising, this is Rahu in the 7th. More broadly, Rahu is attracted to the unusual, the foreign or the forbidden, and needs honesty to keep desire grounded.

Career and money

Venus suits arts, design, fashion, beauty, hospitality, entertainment and luxury trades; Rahu in its sign adds ambition and an appetite for the unusual. Rahu suits technology, foreign work, media, politics, aviation and anything new or disruptive. The movable sign gives a working style that starts things, moves fast and likes initiative. For Capricorn rising it sits in the 10th, the house of career, where Rahu's ambition meets public life. Where money is concerned, income can come suddenly from unusual or foreign sources and needs guarding. The 2nd and 11th houses, the wealth pair, are Libra for Virgo rising and Sagittarius rising respectively.

Health and wellbeing

The planet's areas are unusual or hard-to-diagnose complaints, anxiety and addictions; the sign's are the kidneys and lower back. A helpful habit: a clear limit on screens, speculation and stimulants. This is traditional astrology, not medical advice.

The dispositor

Venus rules Libra, so Venus is Rahu's dispositor. In Parashari practice the results pass through Venus: its house shows where they land, its dignity how fully.

By nakshatra

Within Libra, Rahu falls in one of these nakshatras, whose lord becomes a second dispositor and shares in its periods:

  • 0°–6°40′: Rahu in Chitra, ruled by Mars; deity Tvashtr, the divine craftsman (later identified with Vishvakarma); for work it points to architecture, design, jewellery, surgery, engineering and fashion.

  • 6°40′–20°: Rahu in Swati, Rahu's own nakshatra, so the placement is concentrated; deity Vayu, the wind; its gift is independence and adaptability and its shadow restlessness and indecision.

  • 20°–30°: Rahu in Vishakha, ruled by Jupiter; deity Indra and Agni together (Indragni); for money it earns through ambition and persistence.

If Rahu is between 0° and 3°20′ Libra, it is vargottama (same sign in the navamsa), a classical sign of steadiness. Readers who know their Western chart may find Rahu in Scorpio there: the sidereal–tropical gap is roughly 24°.

Rahu transiting Libra

Time in the sign: about eighteen months in each sign (moving backwards). Counted from the natal Moon (Phaladeepika ch. 26), the classically favourable Moon signs for this transit are Leo, Taurus and Sagittarius; vedha and ashtakavarga then refine the picture. While the nodes cross Libra and Aries, eclipses fall on this axis, and the houses these signs occupy in a chart become restless or active.

The Western view

In Western astrology the North Node in Libra is read, in modern evolutionary astrology, as a direction of growth toward partnership and cooperation, with the South Node in Aries showing what is familiar. Medieval astrology gave the North Node exaltation in Gemini; tropical and sidereal positions differ by about a sign, so check which zodiac a chart uses.
