In short: Rahu in Sagittarius brings the north node's hunger for the new into Sagittarius's territory: a hunger for meaning, belief and foreign experience. Ketu sits opposite in Gemini, so the axis runs between the unfamiliar pull of Sagittarius and the familiar ease of Gemini. The rising sign decides which house Sagittarius becomes, and so where these qualities are lived.

Dignity
Rahu's dignity in Sagittarius is debilitated in another school. The nodes' exaltation and debilitation signs differ between texts, so most Parashari astrologers read Rahu first through its dispositor, Jupiter, then through its nakshatra lord and the planets it joins. In Sagittarius the dispositor is Jupiter, whose own condition therefore sets the tone.
The Vedic view
Rahu has no sign of its own, so in Sagittarius it acts largely through Jupiter, the sign's lord, and through the nakshatra it occupies. Classical texts treat Rahu as a magnifier: it amplifies the matters of its sign and house, often producing ambition, fascination and sudden change. Modern Vedic astrologers read Rahu in Sagittarius as a strong desire to experience Sagittarius's themes — a hunger for meaning, belief and foreign experience — which can bring rapid gains in those areas and also restlessness or confusion until the desire is understood.
With Ketu in Gemini, the person may feel naturally detached from Gemini's themes or have mastered them already; growth tends to come from engaging with Sagittarius consciously while drawing on the skills of Gemini. Lal Kitab, which reads Rahu by house rather than sign, gives its own remedies for each placement.
Another school places Rahu's debilitation in Sagittarius, the sign of Jupiter, the planet of orthodoxy; beliefs and teachers may be questioned. Jupiter's condition matters.
Character and temperament
Rahu signifies desire, ambition, the foreign, the new and the unconventional; Sagittarius is principled, expansive and truth-seeking. As a dual sign, Sagittarius adapts, juggles more than one role and learns on the move, and Rahu takes on that rhythm.
Strengths: drive, originality and the courage to pursue Sagittarius's themes in unconventional ways. The gift underneath is the boldness to break a pattern no one else questions.
Challenges: obsession, dissatisfaction and illusion around the same themes. Left unchecked, it slides toward never feeling it is enough.
Love and marriage
Jupiter, the lord of Sagittarius, sets the agenda: it looks for a principled partner and grows love through shared values. Rahu magnifies that agenda. Opposite, Ketu sits in Gemini, so relationships swing between Sagittarius's principled, expansive and truth-seeking manner and Gemini's curious, talkative and versatile one. The planet draws unconventional or cross-cultural attractions and intense, obsessive feelings, and Sagittarius turns it into idealistic love that needs shared beliefs. Its fire element needs warmth, enthusiasm and some adventure. In a chart with Gemini rising, this is Rahu in the 7th. As a rule, Rahu brings intense, unconventional or cross-cultural attraction, and a hunger that can either renew a relationship or unsettle it.
Career and money
For work, Jupiter the dispositor suits teaching, law, finance, counselling, religion, advisory and senior roles, and Rahu pushes it toward new, foreign, technical or large-scale versions. Professionally, Rahu suits technology, foreign work, media, politics, aviation and anything new or disruptive. Work-wise the dual sign adapts, juggles more than one role and learns on the move. For Pisces rising it sits in the 10th, the house of career, where Rahu's ambition meets public life. Where money is concerned, income can come suddenly from unusual or foreign sources and needs guarding. The 2nd and 11th houses, the wealth pair, are Sagittarius for Scorpio rising and Aquarius rising respectively.
Health and wellbeing
The planet's areas are unusual or hard-to-diagnose complaints, anxiety and addictions; the sign's are the hips and thighs. A helpful habit: a clear limit on screens, speculation and stimulants. This is traditional astrology, not medical advice.
The dispositor
Jupiter rules Sagittarius, so Jupiter is Rahu's dispositor. Think of Jupiter as the manager Rahu reports to here: Jupiter's placement decides where Rahu's work in Sagittarius ends up.
By nakshatra
The degree decides the nakshatra, and each brings its own lord into Rahu's story:
0°–13°20′: Rahu in Mula, ruled by Ketu; deity Nirriti, goddess of dissolution; its gift is getting to the root and its shadow destructiveness.
13°20′–26°40′: Rahu in Purva Ashadha, ruled by Venus; deity Apas, the cosmic waters; for money it earns through persuasion and confidence.
26°40′–30°: Rahu in Uttara Ashadha, ruled by the Sun; deity the Vishvedevas, the universal gods; in love it is principled and loyal in love, and slow to commit but steady after.
By rising sign
Lordship changes with the rising sign, so the table below shows where Rahu in Sagittarius sits and what it governs in each case.

Navamsa and the two zodiacs
Between 26°40′ and 30° Sagittarius, Rahu is vargottama — in Sagittarius in both the birth chart and the navamsa (D9) — which classical texts treat as a mark of consistency and strength. Because the sidereal zodiac is now about 24° behind the tropical one, Rahu in sidereal Sagittarius is often in tropical Capricorn in a Western chart; both are valid within their own system.
Rahu transiting Sagittarius
Time in the sign: about eighteen months in each sign (moving backwards). From the Moon, the transit is classed as good for those with the Moon in Libra, Cancer and Aquarius (Phaladeepika ch. 26), subject to vedha and ashtakavarga. While the nodes cross Sagittarius and Gemini, eclipses fall on this axis, and the houses these signs occupy in a chart become restless or active.
The Western view
In Western astrology the North Node in Sagittarius is read, in modern evolutionary astrology, as a direction of growth toward meaning, faith and higher learning, with the South Node in Gemini showing what is familiar. Medieval astrology gave the North Node exaltation in Gemini; tropical and sidereal positions differ by about a sign, so check which zodiac a chart uses.
