In short: Jupiter (Guru) stations retrograde on 13 December 2026 and direct on 13 April 2027. In the Vedic zodiac this carries it back from Leo (Simha), which it enters on 31 October 2026, into Cancer (Karka) — the sign of its exaltation — from 24 January 2027 (25 January at UTC+5:30) until 25 June 2027. So the blessings astrologers associated with Jupiter's exalted transit of Cancer in 2026 get a second, more reflective season. In the Western zodiac the whole retrograde stays in Leo. Astrologers read Jupiter retrograde as growth turned inward: re-examining beliefs, teachers, long-term plans and investments, and — for marriage timing — a repeat of the houses Jupiter has just blessed.

The Vedic reading: an exalted Jupiter, retrograde

Jupiter is exalted in Cancer (BPHS ch. 3), and astrologers regard an exalted Jupiter as one of the most supportive transits there is — for wisdom, children, wealth, marriage and faith, read from the house it crosses. Retrograde and exalted together, it is commonly read as very strong: the classical idea of high motional strength (cheshta bala, BPHS ch. 27) joined to its best dignity. What astrologers expect is not a new wave of expansion but a deepening: blessings that arrive through reflection, return or repair.

Three further features of this retrograde:

  • Jupiter with Ketu. Rahu and Ketu change signs on 5 December 2026, putting Ketu in Cancer. Jupiter meets it exactly on 1 March and again on 20 April 2027. Astrologers read Jupiter–Ketu as wisdom turning towards the spiritual: detachment, pilgrimage, research, letting go. It is not Guru Chandala yoga, which concerns Jupiter with Rahu.
  • Mars joins them. Mars, itself retrograde from 10 January, enters Cancer — its debilitation — on 9 March (10 March at UTC+5:30) and comes within about four degrees of Jupiter and three of Ketu in late March. A debilitated Mars beside an exalted Jupiter is a combination astrologers read with interest: heat and frustration met by wisdom; some count it towards neecha bhanga, the cancellation of debilitation. See Mars retrograde 2027.
  • Aspects. From Cancer, Jupiter's 5th, 7th and 9th aspects fall on Scorpio, Capricorn (where Rahu is) and Pisces (where Saturn is). Saturn in Pisces receiving Jupiter's aspect is read as relief and guidance for the Sade Sati signs.

The Western reading: Leo, reviewed

In the tropical zodiac Jupiter retrogrades from 27° to 17° of Leo: creativity, children, romance, self-expression, leadership and play. Astrologers read it as a review of what makes you generous and visible — creative projects, the place of children and joy in your life, and confidence that has outrun its foundations. Jupiter at opposition on 11 February is the heart of the period.

Love and marriage

In Vedic timing, Jupiter's transit to, or aspect on, the 7th house or its lord from the Moon or ascendant is one of the classic signals astrologers watch for marriage (see marriage timing). Because the retrograde takes Jupiter back into Cancer, a marriage window that seemed to close when Jupiter entered Leo can reopen for some charts in January–June 2027 — for example for Capricorn Moon or ascendant (Cancer is the 7th) and for those whose 7th lord sits in Cancer, Capricorn, Scorpio or Pisces. Equally, Moon signs that Jupiter is aspecting from Leo in late 2026 may find that window pausing.

For the wedding date itself, muhurta avoids Jupiter's combustion; in this period Jupiter is far from the Sun (it is opposite it in February), so combustion is not in question. Many astrologers still prefer a direct Jupiter if there is a free choice — which in 2027 means after 13 April.

In Western readings of Leo, the retrograde favours rekindling romance and renewing commitments over grand gestures.

Money, career and growth

  • Investments: review long-term plans and over-optimistic forecasts; consolidate gains made in 2026.
  • Career: a good season for further study, teaching, mentoring and repairing relationships with seniors; ambitious leaps are often timed after 13 April.
  • Wealth in the chart: Jupiter is the natural significator of wealth and children; its return to an exalted sign repeats the support it gave the 2nd, 5th, 9th and 11th houses from the Moon in 2026 — see wealth in the birth chart.

This is the tradition's lens, not financial advice.

Mood and mind

The tradition associates Jupiter retrograde with reflection about meaning, faith and direction, and — with Ketu beside it — a pull towards solitude, study and spiritual practice. Optimism becomes quieter and deeper. As always, these are interpretive associations, not claims about psychology.
