The Month of Looking Back
Issue 1 of Sunyra Magazine: the Venus and Mercury double retrograde, Jupiter into Leo, the month ahead for all twelve Moon signs, love and career features, Sade Sati, Swati nakshatra, Shukra, the Diwali calendar and more.
From the editor
Welcome to Sunyra Magazine
This is the first issue of a magazine we have wanted to make since the day Sunyra began: a calm, careful monthly read about the sky, published on the 20th of every month, free.
It arrives on Vijayadashami, the day good triumphs over evil in the old stories, and at an unusual moment in the sky. For three weeks from 24 October, the two planets that govern how we speak and how we love — Mercury and Venus — will both appear to move backwards. In the same fortnight Jupiter, the great benefic, leaves its exaltation in Cancer for the royal sign of Leo, and in India the lamps of Diwali are lit under a new Moon in Swati. We could not have asked for a richer sky to begin with.
Astrology is a tradition of interpretation. The chart is calculated; the reading is guidance.
Three promises shape everything in these pages. First, the maths is exact: every date was computed with the same engine that draws your free kundli, checked against NASA’s JPL ephemeris. Second, the reading is honest: we describe tendencies, not fate, and we will never sell you a remedy against fear. Third, both traditions sit side by side — the Vedic sky by Moon sign, and the Western one where it adds something.
Inside you will find the month ahead for all twelve Moon signs, with the days the Moon favours you and the two or three days to take gently. There are long features on love and on work and money — the two questions most people bring to an astrologer — a plain-language special on Sade Sati, a portrait of Shukra, the nakshatra of the month, and a festival calendar with dates computed for New Delhi.
Every article ends with a QR code that opens its deeper page on sunyra.ai. If you would like your own chart read, the first one is always free.
With care,
The Sunyra editors
The sky this month
A month of looking back
From 24 October to 13 November, Mercury and Venus are retrograde together. Jupiter changes sign on 31 October, Diwali’s new Moon falls on 9 November, and Mars leaves its debilitation on 12 November.
Retrogrades are optical: seen from a moving Earth, a planet seems to stop, back up and move on again. Astrology has always read these loops as times when a planet’s matters are revisited rather than started. Two at once — and these two in particular — make this a month for repair, review and second drafts, especially in love, money and anything you sign.
Where the planets stand on 20 October
| Planet | Sign (Vedic) | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Sun | Libra 2.6° | debilitated; enters Scorpio 16 Nov |
| Moon | Capricorn | waxing, ninth tithi |
| Mars | Cancer 18° | debilitated; enters Leo 12 Nov |
| Mercury | Libra 26° | retrograde 24 Oct – 13 Nov |
| Jupiter | Cancer | exalted; enters Leo 31 Oct |
| Venus | Libra 9° | own sign, retrograde, combust |
| Saturn | Pisces | retrograde until 10 Dec |
| Rahu · Ketu | Aquarius · Leo | move to Capricorn · Cancer on 5 Dec |
Three ideas for the month
Revisit, don’t launch
Use the double retrograde to finish, repair and renegotiate. If you can choose, sign big contracts and set wedding dates after 14 November.
Let Jupiter change the mood
From 31 October the great benefic lights a new house for every sign. Look at your Moon sign page to see where the generosity goes.
Keep Diwali simple and bright
The new Moon of 9 November falls in Libra with Venus and Mercury still retrograde: a lovely time to clean, give, forgive and light lamps, and a poor one for a spending spree.
Feature · 3 October – 14 November
Venus retrograde: love, looked at again
Every nineteen months Venus slows, stops and moves backwards for about six weeks. This time it happens in Libra, its own sign of partnership — then slips into Virgo, the sign where it is weakest.
Retrograde Venus does not end love. It asks what love is made of.
What is happening
Venus stationed retrograde on 3 October at 14° of sidereal Libra, in the nakshatra Swati. On 24 October it passes between the Earth and the Sun (the inferior conjunction), invisible for about ten days on either side; it re-emerges as a morning star in early November. On 5 November (6 November in India) it backs into Virgo, the sign of its debilitation, turns direct there on 14 November, and returns to Libra on 22 November.
How Jyotish reads it
Classical texts give retrograde planets strong cheshta bala, motional strength: a retrograde planet is close to the Earth and bright. Many Jyotishis therefore read retrograde Venus not as weak but as intense and inward — its themes of love, comfort, beauty and value come back for review. In its own sign Libra it remains dignified; once it slips into Virgo, the debilitation asks for realism and humility in matters of the heart.
None of this is a prohibition. Weddings fixed by family, muhurta or circumstance can go ahead; astrologers simply favour the days after Venus turns direct when the choice is open.
Feature · 24 October – 13 November
Mercury retrograde: read it twice
Mercury turns around on 24 October (07:14 UTC, 12:44 IST) at 26.7° of sidereal Libra and turns direct on 13 November at 10.8° Libra. It never leaves Libra, the sign of agreements.
Mercury rules speech, writing, trade, calculation and the nervous system. Three or four times a year it appears to back up for about three weeks, and astrologers in both traditions treat those weeks as a time for review: the matters Mercury governs tend to need a second pass. Practically, that means typos, missed messages, delayed deliveries and plans that change — the kind of friction that is easy to absorb if you expect it.
The best Mercury retrograde advice is ordinary advice, taken seriously.
A practical checklist
Together with Venus: the double retrograde
From 24 October to 13 November both planets are retrograde, both in Libra in the Vedic zodiac (and both in Scorpio in the Western one, until Venus slips back into Libra on 25 October). It is a rare overlap: the planet of words and the planet of love looking back at the same time, in the sign of partnership. The traditional counsel follows naturally — talk things through, revisit rather than begin, and keep weddings and major contracts for after the overlap if you can.
If it is already written, read it again. If it is not yet signed, let it wait a week.
| Date (UTC) | What happens |

| 24 Oct, 03:40 | Venus meets the Sun (inferior conjunction) |
| 24 Oct, 07:14 | Mercury stations retrograde: the double retrograde begins |

Special
Three weeks of second drafts
What should you actually do with a double retrograde? The honest answer is: the same good things you would do anyway, with more patience. Here is how the overlap tends to show up, and how to use it.
Retrograde seasons are not dangerous. They are slow, and slowness has its gifts.

Transit · 31 October
Jupiter leaves its exaltation for the royal sign
Since 1 June Jupiter has been exalted in Cancer. On 31 October it moves into Leo, turns retrograde on 13 December, dips back into Cancer from 24 January to 25 June 2027, and then stays in Leo until 26 November 2027.
In Jyotish, Jupiter (Guru) is the great benefic: wisdom, children, teachers, faith, wealth and good counsel. Its yearly change of sign is one of the transits astrologers watch most, because it moves the "protective hand" from one area of life to another for each Moon sign.
Leo is ruled by the Sun, Jupiter’s friend. Jupiter here is comfortable and generous: it favours leadership with a conscience, public-spirited work, teaching, performance and the education of children. Its shadow in Leo is pride — the temptation to promise more than you can give.
Jupiter does not hand out luck. It rewards good judgement in the house it lights.
Where Jupiter moves for you
Phaladeepika counts Jupiter favourable when it transits the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th or 11th house from the Moon. The table shows the house Jupiter leaves and the house it enters for each Moon sign; your full reading is on your sign’s page in this issue.
| Moon sign | House from the Moon | Classical reading |
|---|---|---|
| ♈︎ Aries | 4 → 5 | favourable |
| ♉︎ Taurus | 3 → 4 | mixed — use with effort |
| ♊︎ Gemini | 2 → 3 | mixed — use with effort |
| ♋︎ Cancer | 1 → 2 | favourable |
| ♌︎ Leo | 12 → 1 | mixed — use with effort |
| ♍︎ Virgo | 11 → 12 | mixed — use with effort |
| ♎︎ Libra | 10 → 11 | favourable |
| ♏︎ Scorpio | 9 → 10 | mixed — use with effort |
| ♐︎ Sagittarius | 8 → 9 | favourable |
| ♑︎ Capricorn | 7 → 8 | mixed — use with effort |
| ♒︎ Aquarius | 6 → 7 | favourable |
| ♓︎ Pisces | 5 → 6 | mixed — use with effort |
“Mixed” does not mean bad. Jupiter in the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th or 12th asks for effort, prudence or service; many people do their most meaningful work in those years.
Looking ahead
What follows the double retrograde
Venus in Virgo, 6 – 22 November
Venus backs into Virgo, its sign of debilitation, just after midnight IST on 6 November, turns direct there on 14 November and returns to Libra on 22 November. Virgo is precise and critical, Venus is generous and pleasure-loving: together they can make love feel like a checklist. The cure is gratitude for small, practical kindnesses.
Mars into Leo, 12 November
Mars has been debilitated in Cancer, where its fire meets water: irritation at home, and energy that leaks into moods. On 12 November it moves into Leo, a fire sign ruled by its friend the Sun, and regains confidence and direction. Many people feel the change as a return of drive.
The Sun into Scorpio, 16 November
The Sun is debilitated in Libra from 17 October to 16 November — a month when authority and recognition come less easily. Its move into Scorpio at 19:44 IST on 16 November (Vrishchika Sankranti) brings back focus and stamina.
Preview: Rahu and Ketu move, 5 December
By the mean node, Rahu leaves Aquarius for Capricorn and Ketu leaves Leo for Cancer on 5 December 2026, staying until 23 June 2028. Rahu’s hunger turns to career, structure and status; Ketu’s detachment to home and emotional roots. Our December issue will read it for every Moon sign.

20 October – 20 November
Your month by Moon sign
Vedic astrology reads the month from your rashi, the sign the Moon occupied when you were born. If you don’t know it, your free kundli shows it on the first line. Each page reads the month’s transits as houses counted from your Moon, with the days the Moon favours you and the days to take gently (when it passes the 8th sign from yours, chandrashtama).
Best days: the Moon in the 3rd, 6th, 10th or 11th from your Moon sign. Careful days: the Moon in the 8th. Dates are in IST.
Mesha · Moon sign
Aries
For Aries Moons this is a month of partnership and patience: the sky is reviewing your closest relationships while Jupiter prepares a brighter, more playful chapter.
The big picture. Jupiter moves into your 5th on 31 October: one of its best positions from the Moon. Romance, children, study and creative work open up, and good advice finds you. Saturn in your 12th, the first phase of Sade Sati, asks you to trim expenses and protect sleep; it is a season for letting go of what is finished.
Love
Venus retrograde in your 7th reviews marriage and partnership directly: talk, repair and renegotiate rather than end or begin anything in a hurry.
After 5 November Venus moves back into Virgo, your 6th, where it is debilitated until 22 November: keep expectations realistic in work routines, health habits and competition, and wait for Venus to turn direct on 14 November before big romantic decisions.
With Jupiter entering your 5th on 31 October, the longer outlook for love is bright: this is the transit astrologers watch for commitment and joy.
Career
Mercury retrograde in your 7th asks for clear wording with partners and clients; reread contracts twice.
The Sun, weak in Libra, sits in your 7th until 16 November; do not take a lack of applause personally.
Money
Jupiter in your 5th from 31 October helps money that comes through romance, children and creative work.
Rahu in your 11th until 5 December favours bold, well-researched moves.
Health habits
Mars, debilitated in your 4th, can make home, mother and inner peace touchy: count to ten before reacting. From 12 November it moves to your 5th: put the heat into exercise and planning.

Meena · Moon sign
Pisces
For Pisces Moons Saturn sits on your Moon, so routine is medicine; Jupiter in your 6th from 31 October rewards method and service.
The big picture. Jupiter moves into your 6th on 31 October. Work routines, health habits and competition need method; service and steady effort beat shortcuts. Until 31 October exalted Jupiter is still in your 5th (romance, children and creative work), so finish what it has been helping there. Saturn, retrograde in your 1st, keeps asking for discipline with sleep, diet and mood: the peak of Sade Sati, best met with routine rather than worry.
Love
Venus retrograde in your 8th stirs deep feelings and shared money; be honest about trust, and avoid new joint loans until December.
After 5 November Venus moves back into Virgo, your 7th, where it is debilitated until 22 November: keep expectations realistic in partner, marriage and agreements, and wait for Venus to turn direct on 14 November before big romantic decisions.
Career
Mercury retrograde in your 8th reopens questions about taxes, insurance or shared accounts; sort them calmly.
The Sun, weak in Libra, sits in your 8th until 16 November; do not take a lack of applause personally.
Money
Jupiter in your 6th from 31 October helps money that comes through work routines, health habits and competition.
Rahu in your 12th until 5 December can tempt you toward quick wins; check twice.
Health habits
Mars, debilitated in your 5th, can make romance, children and creative work touchy: count to ten before reacting. From 12 November it moves to your 6th, where it helps you act.
Sleep, simple food and a daily walk are the best remedies the tradition knows for a Saturn season.

How we wrote these forecasts
A Moon-sign forecast is the oldest and simplest kind of reading in Jyotish. It does not know your ascendant, your dashas or the strength of your own planets — so two people with the same Moon sign can have very different months. Read these pages as the weather; your birth chart is the climate.
The rules we used
- Houses are counted from your Moon sign (whole-sign), as in Phaladeepika ch. 26.
- Jupiter is favourable in the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th; Saturn, Mars, Rahu and Ketu in the 3rd, 6th and 11th; the Sun in the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th.
- Venus and Mercury are read with their retrograde: review rather than verdict.
- Best days are when the Moon passes your 3rd, 6th, 10th or 11th; careful days are chandrashtama, the Moon in your 8th.
What we leave out
- Vedha (obstruction) and Ashtakavarga points, which need your full chart.
- Fear. A “difficult” transit is a description of effort, not a punishment.
- Remedies for sale. If something helps, it is free: sleep, kindness, patience, prayer if you pray.

What your chart says about love — and what it can’t
Most people come to an astrologer with one of two questions. The first is about a person. Here is how the tradition actually reads love and marriage, step by step, with honest notes on its limits.
Where astrologers look
1. The 7th house and its lord
The 7th house is the house of the partner, marriage and agreements. Its sign colours the kind of partnership you seek; its lord carries the story wherever it sits. A 7th lord in an angle or trine, in a friendly or own sign, is the classic sign of a supported marriage; in the 6th, 8th or 12th it describes a path with more effort, or an unusual route.
2. Venus, and Jupiter
Venus is the natural significator of love and partnership for everyone; its dignity shows how easily affection flows. In a woman’s chart the tradition also reads Jupiter as the significator of the husband. Neither is read alone.
3. The Navamsa (D9)
The ninth-harmonic chart is traditionally read for marriage and for how a bond matures after the wedding. Astrologers compare its 7th house and Venus with the birth chart: when both agree, the promise is clearer.
4. The Upapada and the Darakaraka
Two Jaimini tools add detail. The Upapada (the arudha of the 12th house) is read for the marriage itself and its continuity; the Darakaraka, the planet with the fewest degrees in its sign, describes the spouse.
A chart can describe the shape of a partnership. It cannot choose the person for you.
Timing: the question everyone asks
When will I marry? Astrologers answer with two layers. First the dasha: sub-periods of the 7th lord, Venus, the Navamsa 7th lord and (for women) Jupiter are the classic windows. Then transits: Jupiter and Saturn together touching the 7th house or its lord. When both layers agree, the window is considered strong. When they do not, the honest answer is “not yet clear”.
| Signal | What astrologers read | How much weight |
|---|---|---|
| 7th lord or Venus sub-period | Relationship events become a focus | High, if the chart promises marriage |
| Jupiter transiting the 7th or 7th lord | Opportunity, blessing, introductions | Medium; needs the dasha to agree |
| Saturn transiting the 7th | Seriousness, commitment, sometimes delay | Medium |
| Rahu–Ketu across the 1st–7th axis | Unconventional meetings, sudden changes | Low to medium |
| Manglik alone | Nothing by itself; weighed only in matching | Low |
On Manglik, delay and second marriage
A chart is called Manglik when Mars sits in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th from the ascendant, Moon or Venus — which is true for a very large share of people. The classical texts list many exceptions, and they weigh it only when matching two charts, where the other chart often balances it. “Delay” in a chart usually means Saturn’s influence: marriage that comes after a career is settled, or a bond that grows slowly and lasts. A chart that shows two marriages is describing a possibility, not a sentence.

Feature · Work and wealth
Reading work and money in a birth chart
The second question people bring to astrology is about work: which field, how far, and when money arrives. The tradition answers through three houses, a handful of yogas and one Jaimini karaka.
The three houses
The 10th: career
Status, profession and public life. Its sign shows the style of work you grow into; its lord shows where your career draws its strength; planets in it colour the field. Natural malefics — the Sun, Mars, Saturn — do well here: the 10th rewards drive.
The 2nd: savings
Accumulated wealth, family resources, food and speech. Its lord’s condition shows how well money is kept. Jupiter or Venus linked with it are classic signs of comfort.
The 11th: income
Gains, networks, elder siblings and wishes fulfilled. It is an upachaya, a house of growth: what it promises tends to improve with age and effort.
Which planet, which field?
| Planet | Traditional fields |
|---|---|
| Sun | government, administration, leadership, medicine |
| Moon | public-facing work, care, hospitality, food, travel |
| Mars | engineering, defence, police, surgery, sport, property |
| Mercury | commerce, accounts, writing, media, IT, analysis |
| Jupiter | teaching, law, finance and advisory work, counselling |
| Venus | arts, design, fashion, beauty, hospitality, luxury |
| Saturn | administration, large industry, agriculture, construction, service |
| Rahu | technology, foreign companies, media, new fields |
| Ketu | research, coding, fine technical skill, healing |
Astrologers find the planets that “speak for” your work by combining the 10th lord, planets in the 10th, the Amatyakaraka (the planet with the second-highest degree in its sign) and the 10th lord of the Dashamsa (D10). The free kundli at sunyra.ai does this for you and names the two strongest.
Yogas for rise and wealth
Raja yoga
When the lord of an angle (1, 4, 7, 10) joins, aspects or exchanges with the lord of a trine (1, 5, 9), Parashari astrology speaks of a Raja yoga: rise, status, recognition. The strongest is the link between the 9th and 10th lords, Dharma-Karmadhipati yoga.
Dhana yoga
When the lords of the wealth houses (2nd, 11th) link with each other or with the lords of the 1st, 5th and 9th, the chart has a Dhana yoga. Its results ripen in the dashas of the planets involved.
Job or business?
The tradition leans toward business when the 7th house (trade, partners) and Mercury are strong and connected to the 10th or 11th; toward service when the 6th house and Saturn dominate. Most charts mix both — which is why many people do best with a secure job and a side venture.
A yoga is a promise in the chart. The dasha decides when it is kept, and effort decides how much.
Timing a career change
Career changes cluster in sub-periods of the 10th lord, planets in the 10th, and the Amatyakaraka, and when Saturn or Jupiter transits the 10th house or its lord from the Moon or ascendant. This month, Scorpio Moon signs feel the second of those directly as Jupiter moves into their 10th on 31 October; Gemini Moons have Saturn there throughout.
Money this month, by the sky
A note on honesty
No chart can tell you which share to buy or when the market will turn, and we will never pretend otherwise. What astrology can do is describe your temperament with money, the fields that suit you, and the seasons when effort is most likely to pay. That is useful enough.

Special
Sade Sati, without the fear
No transit in Jyotish frightens people more than Saturn’s seven and a half years. Here is what it really is, who is in it now, and why so many people later call it the most formative time of their lives.
What it is
Sade Sati (“seven and a half”) is the period in which Saturn transits the sign before your Moon sign, your Moon sign itself, and the sign after it: about two and a half years each, seven and a half in all. Because Saturn takes about 29½ years to circle the zodiac, most people meet Sade Sati two or three times in a life.
| Phase | Saturn transits | Traditional themes |
|---|---|---|
| Rising | the 12th from the Moon | expenses, sleep, distance, endings and letting go |
| Peak | the Moon sign itself | emotional weight, responsibility, health habits, self-examination |
| Setting | the 2nd from the Moon | money, family, speech; consolidating what was learned |
Who is in it now
Saturn has been in sidereal Pisces since 29 March 2025 and stays until 3 June 2027 (it dips back from 20 October 2027 and leaves for good on 23 February 2028). So as of this issue:
| Moon sign | Phase | Approximate span |
|---|---|---|
| Aquarius | Third (setting) | 24 Jan 2020 → 3 Jun 2027 (finally 23 Feb 2028) |
| Pisces | Second (peak) | 29 Apr 2022 → 8 Aug 2029 (finally 17 Apr 2030) |
| Aries | First (rising) | 29 Mar 2025 → 31 May 2032 |
| Taurus | Begins | 3 Jun 2027 (finally 23 Feb 2028) |
Leo and Sagittarius Moons are in a dhaiya (Saturn in the 8th and 4th from the Moon), the two-and-a-half-year “small panoti”.
Why the fear is misplaced
Saturn is the planet of time, work, duty and consequence. When it passes over the Moon — the mind — it asks the mind to grow up: to carry more, to simplify, to stop postponing what matters. That can feel heavy. It is also, very often, the period in which people build their careers, care for parents, finish degrees, get healthy and become who they are.
Saturn is a strict teacher, not a punishment. It rewards exactly what you put in.
The classical texts are measured. Phaladeepika lists Saturn’s difficult transits from the Moon alongside its good ones (the 3rd, 6th and 11th), and astrologers weigh them with Ashtakavarga points, the natal strength of Saturn and the running dasha. For someone whose Saturn is well placed in the birth chart, Sade Sati can be strikingly productive.
What helps — for free
Questions readers ask about Sade Sati
Should I postpone marriage or a business during Sade Sati?
Not on that ground alone. Many marriages and businesses that began during Sade Sati have lasted well. Astrologers look at the dasha and the whole chart, not one transit.
Is the second phase always the hardest?
Often it is the most emotionally intense, because Saturn sits on the Moon itself. But the hardest phase for you depends on which houses Saturn rules and occupies in your own chart.
Do I need a gemstone or a costly puja?
No. Nothing in the classical texts requires you to pay anyone to survive a transit. If a remedy brings you peace and harms no one, it is yours to choose; if it is sold through fear, walk away.
How do I know my Moon sign?
Make your free kundli: the first line of the reading says it, and the Sade Sati page at sunyra.ai lists computed dates for every Moon sign into the 2040s.
Nakshatra of the month
Swati, the young shoot in the wind
Venus turned retrograde in Swati on 3 October, and the Moon will be in Swati for Diwali on 8–9 November. Meet the fifteenth lunar mansion: independent, flexible, and very hard to break.
| Span | 6°40′ – 20° sidereal Libra |
| Ruler | Rahu (18-year dasha) |
| Deity | Vayu, the wind |
| Symbol | a young shoot swaying in the wind; coral |
| Star | Arcturus (α Boötis) |
| Gana | Deva |
The nature of Swati
Swati means “the independent one” or “self-going”. Its deity is Vayu, the wind — the breath of life in the Vedas, father of Hanuman and of Bhima. Its symbol is a young plant that bends in every breeze and does not snap. That is the heart of the nakshatra: freedom, adaptability, enterprise, and the diplomacy of someone who can move with circumstances without losing their roots.
People with the Moon or ascendant in Swati are often self-reliant, sociable, fair-minded and quietly ambitious. Traditionally it is a nakshatra of traders and travellers; its Rahu rulership adds curiosity about the new and the foreign. Its lesson is steadiness: a shoot needs roots before it needs wind.
| Pada | Navamsa | Flavour |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sagittarius | idealistic, studious, a seeker |
| 2 | Capricorn | practical, organised, ambitious |
| 3 | Aquarius | inventive, networked, humanitarian |
| 4 | Pisces | gentle, imaginative, devotional |
Bend, but do not break: Swati’s whole philosophy in five words.
Swati this month
Venus stationed retrograde at 14° Libra in Swati on 3 October: love’s review began in a nakshatra that prizes independence. On Diwali night (8 November) the Moon too is in Swati; it moves into Vishakha early on 9 November, a few hours before the new Moon. Muhurta texts count Swati among the “movable” (chara) nakshatras, good for travel, trade and starting vehicles — a nice note for a festival of new account books.
Planet profile
Shukra: the teacher who loves beauty
In the Western imagination Venus is the goddess of love. In Jyotish, Shukra is something more surprising: the brilliant, one-eyed guru of the asuras, keeper of the mrita-sanjivani, the knowledge that brings the dead back to life. He is a teacher of refinement, poetry, diplomacy and pleasure — and the significator of marriage, comfort, vehicles, art and the good things of life.
Shukra rules Taurus and Libra, is exalted in Pisces (deepest at 27°) and debilitated in Virgo (deepest at 27°). His friends are Mercury and Saturn; the Sun and Moon are his enemies. His day is Friday, his gem the diamond, his colour white. His Vimshottari dasha lasts twenty years, the longest of all.

Shukra in a chart
Well placed
Affection that comes easily, taste, artistic gifts, a comfortable home, pleasant relationships and an instinct for diplomacy. A strong Venus often shows in a person’s grace with others more than in any one talent.
Under strain
Over-indulgence, dependence on comfort, difficulty valuing oneself, or love that is idealised and then disappointed. The remedy, astrologically and otherwise, is discernment: enjoying beautiful things without being ruled by them.
In the houses
- 1st: charm and a love of beauty in the personality
- 4th: a lovely home; comfort from family
- 7th: a gracious partner — and a classical caution about the significator in its own house
- 10th: careers in arts, design, hospitality or diplomacy
- 12th: pleasure in privacy, travel and devotion; Venus is said to be happy here
Shukra asks one question of every chart: what do you love, and how well do you receive it?

Diwali 2026, read calmly
Diwali’s Lakshmi Puja falls on Sunday 8 November, when Amavasya (which begins at 11:28 IST) prevails through the evening pradosh. The new Moon is exact the next day, 9 November, at 12:32 IST, in Libra; by then the Moon has moved from Swati into Vishakha (at 07:24).
The sky is unusual: Venus and Mercury, the planets of wealth and trade, are both retrograde, and Venus has just slipped into Virgo. Astrologically that makes this a Diwali for gratitude and for reviewing accounts rather than for extravagance — very much in the spirit of opening new books after closing the old ones carefully.

Tarot of the month
The Star
Each month our editors choose one card that speaks to the sky. For a month of looking back, lit by Diwali lamps, it had to be The Star: the card of hope after difficulty, of calm that returns once the storm has passed.
In the old images a woman kneels by a pool under a great star, pouring water onto the land and back into the water. Nothing is hurried. She is replenishing what was spent.
In love
Healing and openness; renewed trust after an honest conversation — exactly what Venus retrograde makes room for.
In work and money
A hopeful outlook and long-term plans gaining light. Not a windfall: a direction.
A question to sit with
What would I do differently if I trusted that things are slowly setting right?
Tarot is a mirror for reflection, not a forecast. Draw your own card with our parrot at sunyra.ai/tarot.
Feature · Matching
Compatibility, honestly
Guna Milan’s 36 points are only the beginning. Here is what each part of matching measures, and how to read a score without fear.
The eight kootas
| Koota | Points | Measures |
|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | temperament and outlook |
| Vashya | 2 | mutual influence |
| Tara | 3 | birth-star harmony, health |
| Yoni | 4 | instinct and intimacy |
| Graha Maitri | 5 | friendship of the Moon-sign lords |
| Gana | 6 | nature: deva, manushya, rakshasa |
| Bhakoot | 7 | Moon-sign relationship |
| Nadi | 8 | constitution; the heaviest weight |
Reading a score
Traditional guidance treats 18 of 36 as the minimum and 24+ as good. But the score is a sum of very different things: a high score with a Nadi dosha can be weaker than a modest score with strong Graha Maitri and Bhakoot. Exceptions (parihara) cancel many doshas. And Guna Milan reads only the Moons — not the 7th houses, Venus, the Navamsa or Manglik status, which serious matching adds.
Two charts do not decide a marriage. Two people do.
The four elements, in the Western view
| Element | Signs | In love |
|---|---|---|
| Fire | Aries, Leo, Sagittarius | warmth, courage, a need for adventure and admiration |
| Earth | Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn | loyalty, practical care, a need for security |
| Air | Gemini, Libra, Aquarius | conversation, ideas, a need for space and fairness |
| Water | Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces | feeling, intuition, a need for closeness and trust |
Same-element pairs understand each other easily; fire with air and earth with water are traditionally supportive; the other pairings ask for translation — which is where many good marriages do their growing.
Moon signs: the sign relationship at a glance
Bhakoot, the largest single sign-based koota, looks at how many signs apart the two Moons are. Counted from either partner’s Moon:
| Distance | How it tends to feel |
|---|---|
| Same sign (1/1) | easy understanding, shared rhythms; can mirror each other’s weak spots |
| 2/12 | Bhakoot dosha in Guna Milan; practical differences about money and space |
| 3/11 | friendly and mutually encouraging; good for companionship |
| 4/10 | complementary: home and ambition; needs shared goals |
| 5/9 | trine: natural affinity, shared values — the classic harmonious pairing |
| 6/8 | Bhakoot dosha; intense, transformative, asks for maturity |
| 1/7 | opposite signs: attraction and balance, the archetypal partnership axis |
This month for couples
A low score is not a verdict, and a high one is not a guarantee. Use matching to understand each other’s natures, then decide as adults.
Explainers
Questions readers ask
Plain answers to the worries we hear most often. If you have a question for a future issue, write to [email protected].
Is a retrograde planet in my birth chart bad?
No. Classical astrology gives retrograde planets strong motional strength. A retrograde planet often describes something you revisit, internalise or come back to later in life — and many accomplished people have one.
My astrologer said my marriage will be late. Should I worry?
Ask what “late” means in the chart. Usually it describes Saturn’s influence: marriage after a career is settled, or a bond that matures slowly. That is not a curse; for many people it is the best kind of marriage.
Do I need to wear a gemstone?
Nothing obliges you to. Gemstones are a later tradition, prescribed by rules that differ between schools. If you choose one, choose it for a planet that is a functional benefic in your chart, from someone who explains why — and never because you were frightened.
What is the difference between Moon sign and Sun sign?
Vedic astrology uses your Moon sign (rashi) in the sidereal zodiac; Western astrology usually uses your Sun sign in the tropical zodiac. They answer different questions: the Moon describes the mind and feelings, the Sun the core self. Both appear in your free kundli.
Why is my Vedic sign different from my Western sign?
The two zodiacs differ by about 24° today (the ayanamsa), because the sidereal zodiac follows the stars and the tropical one follows the seasons. Most people’s Sun moves back one sign in the Vedic chart.
Is it safe to start something during Rahu kaal?
Muhurta tradition avoids beginnings in Rahu kaal, a ninety-minute window each day. It is a matter of preference rather than danger: if you can choose another time, many people do.
What is a dasha?
A planetary period. Vimshottari dasha divides a 120-year cycle among the nine grahas, starting from the nakshatra of your Moon. The running mahadasha and antardasha set the themes that transits then trigger.
Can astrology predict the exact date of an event?
Honest astrology cannot. It can describe periods when a theme is emphasised. Anyone who sells you a guaranteed date is selling certainty, not astrology.
How accurate must my birth time be?
For the Moon sign and planets, a rough time is fine. For the ascendant and houses, minutes matter: the ascendant changes sign about every two hours. If you don’t know the time, the kundli still reads the Moon and planets.
Why do different websites give me different horoscopes?
Usually because of three settings: the zodiac (sidereal or tropical), the ayanamsa (Lahiri, Raman, KP and others differ by up to a degree or so) and the house system. Every Sunyra chart prints the settings it used, so you can compare like with like.
Honest astrology describes seasons, not sentences.
Is it all right to marry without matching charts?
Many happy couples never matched charts. Matching is a tool for understanding temperament and timing; it is not a licence or a veto. If families want it, read the full picture rather than a single score.
What is my nakshatra, and why does it matter?
It is the lunar mansion the Moon occupied at your birth — one of 27. It sets the starting point of your Vimshottari dasha, shapes Guna Milan, and is said to colour your emotional nature. Your free kundli names it, with its pada.
Can a strong chart still have a hard life, or a weak chart a good one?
Yes. A chart describes potential and seasons; choices, effort, family and society shape what is made of them. That is why we read tendencies and never verdicts.
Is Kaal Sarp dosha real?
It is absent from the classical texts (Parashara, Varahamihira, Mantreswara) and appears only in later writings. We describe it on our yoga pages for completeness, and never as a reason for fear.
Guide
How to read your kundli in ten minutes
- Find your Lagna. The rising sign is the first house; it describes the body, temperament and how you meet life.
- Find your Moon. Its sign is your rashi; its nakshatra sets your dasha clock.
- Note the strong and weak planets. Exalted, own-sign and moolatrikona planets are strong; debilitated ones need context.
- Read the houses that matter to you. The 7th for partnership, the 10th for career, the 2nd and 11th for money.
- Look for yogas. Raja, Dhana, Gajakesari and the five Mahapurusha yogas are checked by their exact rules in your free reading.
- Check your dasha. The running mahadasha and antardasha are the season of your life; the planet’s house and lordship show where it is felt.
- Add the Navamsa. The D9 confirms or qualifies what the birth chart promises, especially for marriage.
- Read transits last. Gochara triggers what the chart and dasha already promise; it does not create events from nothing.

About Sunyra Magazine
Sunyra Magazine is published free on the 20th of every month by Sunyra (sunyra.ai). Each issue covers the sky from the 20th to the 20th. The next issue, on 20 November 2026, reads Rahu and Ketu’s move into Capricorn and Cancer for every Moon sign.
Calculations. Planetary positions, stations, ingresses, tithis and the Moon’s signs were computed with the Sunyra engine, built on astronomy-engine and verified against NASA JPL Horizons to under an arc-minute. Vedic positions use the Lahiri ayanamsa; Western ones are tropical. Times are computed for New Delhi (UTC+5:30) unless marked UTC; for your city, see Panchang.
Sources. Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (tr. Santhanam), Phaladeepika of Mantreswara (tr. Subramanya Sastri), the Jaimini Sutras, Muhurta Chintamani, and the Taittiriya texts on the nakshatras. All text is original; nothing is copied from other publications.
Illustrations. All illustrations, wheels and charts in this issue are original drawings by Sunyra, made for the magazine. Tarot imagery is our own; no third-party artwork is used.
