In short: Taurus (the Bull, 20 April – 20 May in the tropical zodiac) is a fixed earth sign ruled by Venus. In love it needs patience, loyalty and physical affection. By the classical aspects it is most at ease with the other earth signs, Virgo and Capricorn, and on friendly terms with Cancer and Pisces; its opposite, Scorpio, is the classic attraction of opposites. But a Sun sign is one factor in a chart of many. Read this page as a portrait of styles, not a verdict on any couple.

How Taurus loves
Taurus loves slowly and for keeps. It wants to know a person well before it commits, and once it does, it is among the most loyal signs in the zodiac. Love is shown through the senses and through reliability: good food, physical affection, a comfortable home, turning up when it said it would.
What helps a Taurus grow in a relationship is bending a little when a partner needs change, and not mistaking comfort for closeness.

Sign by sign
Taurus and Aries
Aries starts things and Taurus finishes them. Aries can find Taurus slow, Taurus can find Aries rash, yet each supplies exactly what the other lacks when they agree on a shared aim. Neighbouring signs share neither element nor mode. Each tends to have what the other lacks, which makes the pair complementary but sometimes puzzling to each other. Fire and earth differ in pace — one acts on inspiration, the other on evidence — but each can steady or energise the other. Taurus needs patience, loyalty and physical affection; Aries needs honesty, energy and room to act.
Taurus and Taurus
Two Taurus Suns build a life of comfort, loyalty and shared pleasures. Stability comes easily; the risk is two people quietly refusing to change their minds at the same time. Two people with the same Sun sign share a basic way of meeting life. That brings instant understanding and the same blind spots. What helps most is patience, loyalty and physical affection, offered in both directions.
Taurus and Gemini
Taurus wants to settle and Gemini wants to explore. Taurus can ground Gemini's restlessness; Gemini can keep Taurus curious. Patience with each other's pace is essential. Neighbouring signs share neither element nor mode. Each tends to have what the other lacks, which makes the pair complementary but sometimes puzzling to each other. Air and earth think differently — one in possibilities, the other in practicalities — and can build well together once they respect that. Taurus needs patience, loyalty and physical affection; Gemini needs conversation, variety and humour.
Taurus and Cancer
Earth and water in their most natural pairing: both value home, security and loyalty. Affection tends to be steady and practical. Moodiness and stubbornness are the small storms. Signs two apart are of compatible elements (fire with air, earth with water). The sextile is an easy, friendly aspect that rewards a little effort. Water nourishes earth: care and practicality support each other. Taurus needs patience, loyalty and physical affection; Cancer needs emotional security and a sense of home.
Taurus and Leo
Two fixed signs with a shared love of quality and loyalty. Leo wants admiration, Taurus wants reliability, and both can be immovable. Generous gestures in both directions keep it warm. Signs three apart share a mode but clash in element. Squares bring friction and motivation in equal measure; many lasting couples are squares who learned to use the tension well. Fire and earth differ in pace — one acts on inspiration, the other on evidence — but each can steady or energise the other. Taurus needs patience, loyalty and physical affection; Leo needs warmth, loyalty and appreciation.
Taurus and Virgo
Two earth signs who show love through care and reliability. Daily life runs smoothly; the relationship deepens when both make time for pleasure as well as duty. Signs four apart share an element. The trine is the most comfortable aspect: values and rhythms tend to agree without much effort. Earth with earth is steady and practical; the challenge is keeping room for spontaneity. Taurus needs patience, loyalty and physical affection; Virgo needs reliability, kindness and calm.
Taurus and Libra
Both are traditionally ruled by Venus, so beauty, comfort and harmony matter to each. Taurus is more possessive, Libra more sociable; shared aesthetics are a strong bond. Signs five apart share neither element nor mode, and see the world from angles that do not naturally meet. The quincunx asks for constant small adjustments. Air and earth think differently — one in possibilities, the other in practicalities — and can build well together once they respect that. Taurus needs patience, loyalty and physical affection; Libra needs fairness, beauty and partnership.
Taurus and Scorpio
Opposite fixed signs: Taurus seeks peace and simplicity, Scorpio depth and transformation. Strong mutual attraction and loyalty, with jealousy and stubbornness as the shadows to watch. Opposite signs share a mode and complementary elements. The attraction of opposites is real: each embodies what the other is learning. Water nourishes earth: care and practicality support each other. Taurus needs patience, loyalty and physical affection; Scorpio needs trust, depth and privacy.
Taurus and Sagittarius
Taurus wants roots and Sagittarius wants the horizon. Taurus can give Sagittarius a home base, and Sagittarius can widen Taurus's world, if neither tries to change the other's nature. Signs five apart share neither element nor mode, and see the world from angles that do not naturally meet. The quincunx asks for constant small adjustments. Fire and earth differ in pace — one acts on inspiration, the other on evidence — but each can steady or energise the other. Taurus needs patience, loyalty and physical affection; Sagittarius needs freedom, honesty and shared adventure.
Taurus and Capricorn
Two earth signs who build patiently. Shared goals, financial sense and loyalty come easily; warmth grows from small rituals of affection that both remember to keep. Signs four apart share an element. The trine is the most comfortable aspect: values and rhythms tend to agree without much effort. Earth with earth is steady and practical; the challenge is keeping room for spontaneity. Taurus needs patience, loyalty and physical affection; Capricorn needs commitment, respect and shared goals.
Taurus and Aquarius
Two fixed signs with different priorities: Taurus the personal and sensual, Aquarius the social and ideal. Respect for each other's principles helps more than trying to win. Signs three apart share a mode but clash in element. Squares bring friction and motivation in equal measure; many lasting couples are squares who learned to use the tension well. Air and earth think differently — one in possibilities, the other in practicalities — and can build well together once they respect that. Taurus needs patience, loyalty and physical affection; Aquarius needs friendship, space and shared ideals.
Taurus and Pisces
Earth and water, both gentle and pleasure-loving. Taurus offers Pisces security, Pisces offers Taurus imagination. A soft, affectionate pairing that needs some practical boundaries. Signs two apart are of compatible elements (fire with air, earth with water). The sextile is an easy, friendly aspect that rewards a little effort. Water nourishes earth: care and practicality support each other. Taurus needs patience, loyalty and physical affection; Pisces needs gentleness, imagination and emotional understanding.
Which signs suit Taurus best?
By the classical logic of aspects, the easiest matches for Taurus are the same-element trines (Virgo and Capricorn) and the sextiles (Cancer and Pisces), with Scorpio as the complementary opposite. Squares and quincunxes are traditionally harder. In practice, though, Sun-sign compatibility predicts very little on its own: many devoted couples are squares, and many trines drift apart. What matters more is how the whole charts interact — and, above all, how two people treat each other.
Sun signs and Moon signs
Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, tied to the seasons; Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, tied to the stars. Because the two are now about 24° apart, most people born between 20 April and about 15 May have their Sun in Taurus by Western reckoning but in Aries (Mesha) by Vedic reckoning. Neither is the "real" sign; they measure different things.
Vedic matchmaking does not use the Sun sign at all. It compares the two Moon signs and nakshatras through Guna Milan. If that is the tradition you follow, see Taurus Moon sign compatibility.
Beyond the Sun sign: synastry
Western astrologers compare two people through synastry: the aspects between every planet in one chart and every planet in the other. Venus and Mars describe attraction and desire; the Moon describes emotional needs; Mercury how two people talk; Saturn what makes a relationship feel committed — or heavy. The composite chart, built from the midpoints of the two charts, is read for the relationship as an entity of its own. Liz Greene's Relating (1977) and Stephen Arroyo's work on the elements shaped the modern psychological approach used here.
FAQ
Who is Taurus most compatible with? Traditionally the other earth signs (Virgo, Capricorn) and the sextile signs (Cancer, Pisces). The whole chart matters far more than the Sun sign.
Is Taurus compatible with Scorpio? Opposite signs are often strongly attracted and complementary. They share a mode (fixed) and balance each other's elements; the work is treating differences as balance rather than opposition.
Is my Vedic sign the same as my Western sign? Often not. Most people born in roughly the first three weeks of tropical Taurus have the Sun in Aries in the sidereal zodiac. Check both in your free kundli.
