In short: Virgo (the Maiden, 23 August – 22 September in the tropical zodiac) is a mutable earth sign ruled by Mercury. In love it needs reliability, kindness and calm. By the classical aspects it is most at ease with the other earth signs, Taurus and Capricorn, and on friendly terms with Scorpio and Cancer; its opposite, Pisces, is the classic attraction of opposites. But a Sun sign is one factor in a chart of many. Read this page as a portrait of styles, not a verdict on any couple.

How Virgo loves
Virgo loves through attention. It notices what a partner needs and quietly provides it — the fixed tap, the remembered appointment, the thoughtful practical gift. It can be shy about declarations of feeling and is often its own harshest critic. Trust, once given, is steady and sincere.
What helps a Virgo grow in a relationship is turning its eye for flaws into encouragement, especially toward itself.

Sign by sign
Virgo and Aries
Aries acts, Virgo refines. Virgo can make Aries' plans work in practice, while Aries can free Virgo from over-checking. Criticism and impatience are the two habits to watch. Signs five apart share neither element nor mode, and see the world from angles that do not naturally meet. The quincunx asks for constant small adjustments. Fire and earth differ in pace — one acts on inspiration, the other on evidence — but each can steady or energise the other. Virgo needs reliability, kindness and calm; Aries needs honesty, energy and room to act.
Virgo and Taurus
Two earth signs who show love through care and reliability. Daily life runs smoothly; the relationship deepens when both make time for pleasure as well as duty. Signs four apart share an element. The trine is the most comfortable aspect: values and rhythms tend to agree without much effort. Earth with earth is steady and practical; the challenge is keeping room for spontaneity. Virgo needs reliability, kindness and calm; Taurus needs patience, loyalty and physical affection.
Virgo and Gemini
Both ruled by Mercury, these two share a love of ideas and detail. Gemini scatters, Virgo organises; mutual respect for intelligence keeps the inevitable critiques gentle. Signs three apart share a mode but clash in element. Squares bring friction and motivation in equal measure; many lasting couples are squares who learned to use the tension well. Air and earth think differently — one in possibilities, the other in practicalities — and can build well together once they respect that. Virgo needs reliability, kindness and calm; Gemini needs conversation, variety and humour.
Virgo and Cancer
Water and earth: Cancer's care and Virgo's practical help fit well. A considerate, home-loving pair; worry is the habit they can amplify in each other. Signs two apart are of compatible elements (fire with air, earth with water). The sextile is an easy, friendly aspect that rewards a little effort. Water nourishes earth: care and practicality support each other. Virgo needs reliability, kindness and calm; Cancer needs emotional security and a sense of home.
Virgo and Leo
Leo leads with heart, Virgo with care. Virgo quietly supports Leo's plans; Leo brings Virgo out of itself. Leo should avoid demanding praise, Virgo avoid withholding it. Neighbouring signs share neither element nor mode. Each tends to have what the other lacks, which makes the pair complementary but sometimes puzzling to each other. Fire and earth differ in pace — one acts on inspiration, the other on evidence — but each can steady or energise the other. Virgo needs reliability, kindness and calm; Leo needs warmth, loyalty and appreciation.
Virgo and Virgo
Two Virgos share standards, reliability and quiet devotion. Life is well run; the risk is turning care into correction, so humour and praise are worth practising. Two people with the same Sun sign share a basic way of meeting life. That brings instant understanding and the same blind spots. What helps most is reliability, kindness and calm, offered in both directions.
Virgo and Libra
Virgo is practical, Libra diplomatic. Both appreciate refinement and good manners; decisions go best when Virgo supplies the detail and Libra the balance. Neighbouring signs share neither element nor mode. Each tends to have what the other lacks, which makes the pair complementary but sometimes puzzling to each other. Air and earth think differently — one in possibilities, the other in practicalities — and can build well together once they respect that. Virgo needs reliability, kindness and calm; Libra needs fairness, beauty and partnership.
Virgo and Scorpio
Earth and water, both perceptive and private. Scorpio's depth and Virgo's care form a loyal, intelligent bond in which trust is earned and kept. Signs two apart are of compatible elements (fire with air, earth with water). The sextile is an easy, friendly aspect that rewards a little effort. Water nourishes earth: care and practicality support each other. Virgo needs reliability, kindness and calm; Scorpio needs trust, depth and privacy.
Virgo and Sagittarius
Two dual signs with different instincts: Virgo the detail, Sagittarius the big picture. They learn a lot from each other, and both need tolerance for the other's way of seeing. Signs three apart share a mode but clash in element. Squares bring friction and motivation in equal measure; many lasting couples are squares who learned to use the tension well. Fire and earth differ in pace — one acts on inspiration, the other on evidence — but each can steady or energise the other. Virgo needs reliability, kindness and calm; Sagittarius needs freedom, honesty and shared adventure.
Virgo and Capricorn
Two earth signs, responsible and practical. Mutual respect and steady progress come naturally; affection grows when both allow themselves to relax. Signs four apart share an element. The trine is the most comfortable aspect: values and rhythms tend to agree without much effort. Earth with earth is steady and practical; the challenge is keeping room for spontaneity. Virgo needs reliability, kindness and calm; Capricorn needs commitment, respect and shared goals.
Virgo and Aquarius
Virgo improves systems, Aquarius reinvents them. Both are thoughtful and somewhat reserved; shared projects and causes are a strong foundation. Signs five apart share neither element nor mode, and see the world from angles that do not naturally meet. The quincunx asks for constant small adjustments. Air and earth think differently — one in possibilities, the other in practicalities — and can build well together once they respect that. Virgo needs reliability, kindness and calm; Aquarius needs friendship, space and shared ideals.
Virgo and Pisces
Opposite signs of service: Virgo through practical help, Pisces through compassion. A deeply caring pairing that needs to balance realism with imagination. Opposite signs share a mode and complementary elements. The attraction of opposites is real: each embodies what the other is learning. Water nourishes earth: care and practicality support each other. Virgo needs reliability, kindness and calm; Pisces needs gentleness, imagination and emotional understanding.
Which signs suit Virgo best?
By the classical logic of aspects, the easiest matches for Virgo are the same-element trines (Taurus and Capricorn) and the sextiles (Scorpio and Cancer), with Pisces as the complementary opposite. Squares and quincunxes are traditionally harder. In practice, though, Sun-sign compatibility predicts very little on its own: many devoted couples are squares, and many trines drift apart. What matters more is how the whole charts interact — and, above all, how two people treat each other.
Sun signs and Moon signs
Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, tied to the seasons; Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, tied to the stars. Because the two are now about 24° apart, most people born between 23 August and about 17 September have their Sun in Virgo by Western reckoning but in Leo (Simha) by Vedic reckoning. Neither is the "real" sign; they measure different things.
Vedic matchmaking does not use the Sun sign at all. It compares the two Moon signs and nakshatras through Guna Milan. If that is the tradition you follow, see Virgo Moon sign compatibility.
Beyond the Sun sign: synastry
Western astrologers compare two people through synastry: the aspects between every planet in one chart and every planet in the other. Venus and Mars describe attraction and desire; the Moon describes emotional needs; Mercury how two people talk; Saturn what makes a relationship feel committed — or heavy. The composite chart, built from the midpoints of the two charts, is read for the relationship as an entity of its own. Liz Greene's Relating (1977) and Stephen Arroyo's work on the elements shaped the modern psychological approach used here.
FAQ
Who is Virgo most compatible with? Traditionally the other earth signs (Taurus, Capricorn) and the sextile signs (Scorpio, Cancer). The whole chart matters far more than the Sun sign.
Is Virgo compatible with Pisces? Opposite signs are often strongly attracted and complementary. They share a mode (mutable) and balance each other's elements; the work is treating differences as balance rather than opposition.
Is my Vedic sign the same as my Western sign? Often not. Most people born in roughly the first three weeks of tropical Virgo have the Sun in Leo in the sidereal zodiac. Check both in your free kundli.
